Default A young man I met at the NCM today

Today during the car show portion of the NCM 21th Anniversary Celebration I met a young man (25ish) who came by to look at my car and visit. I noticed from his name badge that he was registered for the event, so I asked him what kind of Corvette he had. He told me that he did not have one yet, but wanted to know all about my C7. It turns out that this young man is very well grounded and he told me he has come down to the NCM to "keep his motivation going." He has always dreamed of owning a Corvette but he has to save his money to get one first. He told me how the loved the cars and in fact had done a lot of research on the last 3 generations. I asked him where he was from, and he told me that he is from South Texas near Corpus Christi, but is stationed at Fort Campbell Kentucky. He is a serviceman who has one more year and then he plans on pursuing a career as a Auto Technician. Anyway, this young fellow made me believe that there is hope for the next generation. I hope he is able to get that dream car.

I know this is a little off-topic, but this future Corvette owner really impressed me. I hope this young man is reading this because I wanted to thank him for his service and to salute him since he a soon to be veteran.

I could have and probably should have, but I just did not think about it at the time. I have let a lot of people drive my Corvettes over the years, it is not a big problem for me (If I am also in the passenger seat)

It would have been nice for you to get his name and address. We could have started a "crowd funding" campaign to raise funds for him, and really surprise this military young man with a new C7.

This is not a crazy idea and I would be one of the contributors.

Life is all about helping others without asking for anything or nothing in return.

A $100 contribution from CF members would not be asking very much.

+2. I'm a younger guy myself and don't own a Corvette yet, but plan to buy one in the future. I read the forums everyday and it's nice to see how great the Corvette community is here (most of the time at least ). It's not just the performance and looks of the Corvette (not just the C7, every generation to me), but also the awesome people part of the community.

I'm another one of those veterans buying their first Corvette dream car.

I like reading about people being simply nice to each other. The world could use a lot more of that.

Crawfish you did nothing wrong, it's a nice idea to take up a collection I mean really it shows a lot of selflessness, but I can almost guarantee that this man would rather do it himself. Like many other occupations, the military teaches us the value of teamwork and cohesion. But unlike much of nonmilitary life in my experience, military service also teaches us the crucial component of each person carrying their own weight. The world could use a lot more of that too IMO.

I mean no offense to anyone, this was a very thoughtful idea, but working hard and making good choices in life to achieve your dream 'vette has to beat someone giving it to you even if it's out of genuine altruistic gratitude.

Cool meeting a young fella that has goals and a plan. Although with things being what they are, he may be better off staying in the military, getting his education there and climbing the ranks. For the long run, retirement out of the military may be better than retirement as a civilian, in the same job field.
Either way, good luck to the young man and God Bless.

Years ago I was at an outdoor party and a kid that was a guest of the person having the party came over to talk about the corvette I was driving.

I gave him my keys to the old 75 I was driving, I think I created another corvette guy.

Nice story about what sounds to be a very nice young man. The best thing that can happen is that he gets a reasonable paying job when he gets out of the service. Hopefully someone will appreciate him for who he is (and what he has done) and give him a chance to succeed in life. I'm sure someday he'll have that Vette!
