Default Lemon Law advice

Owning a c7 vert has been a nightmare for me. I have had the car into the dealer four times, twice at Abel Chev and twice at Sierra motors for the same fix. The vehicle will, without warning, go into limp mode which will not allow the car to accelerate. Somewhat dangerous?? I am now convinced to turn the car back into the selling dealer to see about getting it replaced. It was an ordered car with 3lt and z51 package. Has anyone got any advice for invoking the lemon law with my dealer??

First thing is for you to find out what constitutes a "lemon" in your state.

Depends on the state. Usually it's if they can't fix it three times within one year and/or the days in the shop adds up to 30 days for the same problem. The dealer does not care about lemon law at all. If anybody buys the car back, it's GM so it's not their money, so press the issue with them that you're getting near lemon law, and they need to communicate that to GM. you may even want to call customer relations and tell them they are on notice.

This. Every state is different. Research your state's law and see if your issues qualify before doing anything else.

Just keep your repair orders...they are what document your time and the dealer effort. However it is state law that all dealers must keep all repair orders in archive/online for 3 to 5 years.

Here is the BBB information on the California lemon law:

https://www.bbb.org/council/programs...w-information/

Read that, in California you have to directly contact the manufacturer of an issue that the dealer can't resolve. Read the rest of it for the specifics on number of days etc.

Good luck!

They helped me years ago on my 99 Vette buy back. Great service and it's free.

Good luck.

"The consumer is required to directly notify the man

Is the lemon law actually mentioned in the owner's or warranty manuals?

Sucks that you are having so many problems with your C7. Be sure to press the issue now as you don't want to bump up against any time or mileage limits you may have. Hope it can all be resolved to your satisfaction.

I lemon lawed my 14' last year and I can tell you what GM did for me. After some 45 total days in the shop and my 14 started to make odd noises from the drivetrain.

First, you need to contact the BBB, they will put everything in motion for you.

Once I contacted the BBB and submitted the paper work they requested that started the communication between GM and myself.

GM's first offer was that they would give me $2,000 back for me to keep the car.

I said no and they said they would have to review the case and contact me in 7-10 business days.

They contacted me again and offered to "trade my car in." They offered to have me trade my car in for full value of what I paid BUT I was responsible for taxes, dealer processing fees and all the other fees involved. About $3k plus the difference in MSRP that my Z51 jumped, about $4k AND my dealer wouldn't do supplier pricing so I'd get a new 14' for about $8k more.

I said no and they said they would contact me in 7-10 business days.

The third time they finally agreed to buy my car back for 100% including all my fees, taxes processing fees even pay for the extended warranty, tire warranty, they paid the interested I paid on the loan and and even my tinted windows! They do deduct for mileage driven until the first service visit.

Needless to say, I took the deal, contacted a dealer that took supplier pricing, ordered my 15' with a MSRP of 10k more for just a little more than I paid for my 14'

Good luck!

What codes were thrown and what was replaced or done by the dealers. Abel Chevrolet is the only dealership that I will allow to my Corvettes. They have a great reputation in the community and have helped many Vette owners. If it can be fixed, they will do it.

I know someone that got screwed by this. Dealer basically "left the work open" and didn't close out the issue each time the car was in the shop. 4 fixes later when friend tried to lemon law it, they claimed it was only in "once."

Guess I was lucky. Did you not meet your states Lemon Law guidelines? It you did then it's pretty cut and dry.

Then you claim that their time frame is over, meaning if they left it open and it will show that the car has been "in the shop" for some ridiculous time!

Go to the Search box and put in "flytrade". My Lemon Law posts should come up.

From my experience I feel I am an expert on the subject. Feel free to call me and I'll be glad to discuss it with you.
