I saw possibly one of the best state troopers today. So traffic is congested, moving at the speed limit but congested. I'm just trying to go to a twisty road and have a nice drive. The speed limit is 65 and I'm in the passing lane stuck going 66 behind several slow drivers. I look in the rear view mirror and see a cop two cars back. Immediately I'm worried he saw me punch it getting on the high way. Then he throws his lights on and the car he was tailgating pulls into the other lane, I do too thinking he is coming for me. Once the car moves he turns off his lights and speed past me. As he passes we exchange nods, I get behind him and we start going 80 together. Whenever he encounters a car going under 75ish in the passing lane he throws his lights on. This continues until I get to my exit and he continues on his way.
I'm sure he was doing for himself, but that nod and the fact he let me follow going 15 over made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. And any officer that clears the passing lane of slower cars holds a large spot in my heart.
You're pretty lucky, the nod he gave you might be because he appreciates your car.
My son is a recently retired street cop and I think he'd comment that it might well have been that the cop was on a call and was running fast intentionally w/o a lot of fuss. If that was the case, he might not have time to slow down and ticket you. Risky business. Don

I was at an event one day and their were a group of off duty Highway Patrol. The got in their car and I got in mine. We pulled out of the parking lot and both got on the interstate. They drove along at 20 over and I followed. A 100 mile trip made very pleasant.

I do see that the trooper was doing a public service by clearing out the left lane. The point that you got to trail him somewhat over the speed limit was just a bonus for you. Sorry to read several posters just had to rain on your labor day parade.
Being in the fast lane without using it to pass should be a felony in my opinion. Too many "keepers of the speed" out there. The officer was preventing several felonies. Good work officer!

From an old LEO, that's the deal. I do hate to rain on your parade, and you were lucky he didn't have a friend nearby. But, it's all good.

So a true public servant lets certain people break the law..gmafb.
No I'm not saying that because he let me follow at 20 over, that was just a lucky bonus. I'm saying it because he kept the passing lane as a passing lane. Another reason I said "true public servant" is because when you title something you want people to read it should peak their interest and make them want to read it. Is it kind of an exaggeration yes, but thats the point of a hook.
