Are the map updates like BMW in that you can code them in yourself with some certificates / software and connectors hooked up to the car? Used to be able to do that at a much lower price than the retail ask for the navigation update. Just asking.
I don't understand this? In my 2007 Z06, I had diskettes, but there is no diskette for my 2015 Z06, I thought it did an update somehow thru On Star. How does the update process work for the 2015?
I believe it's via a USB flash drive that they send you once you give them the Vin and pay up.

Great timing on this thread, I actually looked 2 weeks ago and was surprised to see the price of the map update.
I was also surprised at at the cost, and I couldn't find any release date for the next version. Does anyone know when or how often map updates are released?

I plan to wait at least three years on my '15 DD vehicle before getting an update. Sure some things will change year to year, but not enough to worry about it.
With a 2014, perhaps getting the '16 version when available would be a good idea.

+1 to that, with my current car too, I will be waiting 3 years as I've found that only a few roads have changed enough that I end up in a navigation cluster-f***. In those situations, I use the phone and on long roadtrips in areas where I don't have cellphone reception, I use the onboard nav to get me going in the general direction I want to be going atleast.
Then again at the 3 year mark, I will no longer have my current car
Good thing I know where I'm going usually. 160 for updates is ridiculous. The thought of spending all the money on a car like this and still needing to pay for that even more so.

I definitely miss the coding ability from the BMW. Amazing what these systems can do if you have access.
I wasn't referring to location of the car. I was referring to having maps. Maps stream down to Google Maps/ Apple Maps and replace previous maps. If you don't have a data signal, you will soon not have any maps on your device. You will just have a GPS coordinate on a blank white screen. This is why I said data signal, not cell signal. Triangulation can be done from a cell signal only.
Still waiting on my C7 to be built. This will be my first car with Nav and that's only b/c is required for PDR. I often wondered about update costs on a car's Nav. I have 2 Garmins with lifetime maps and from what I've seen on car Navs, I'd rather use the Garmin. On my brother's Ford, when I had to go to a Honda dealer and did a search for dealers on the car Nav, it only produced Ford dealers.
I will probably never update the Nav on my C7 and just keep the Garmin handy after reading these posts.
