Was returning from drive and noticed a small spec on windshield right in drivers view. I tried to wipe it away and discovered it's a very small (head of a pin) chip in glass!!
Brand new Z06 less than 1000 miles.
Question... Can this be fixed by glass repair folks or should I call insurance co and ask to replace windshield. At this point it's not a big deal...but it will bug the S---t out of me.
Any suggestions!!
I'm in the same boat with ya...........I am hoping I am wrong.........but I think we are SOL!!!
Insurance company wont touch it unless it is cracked. Even a bullseye does not warrant replacement if it is not in the line of vision.
I am unaware of any process that can remove this chip but hope someone else is!!!
If it is any comfort....... before I went to the track I used a product called bullet proof. What the heck for $30. I had no pitting or chips after the track day. BUT somewhere in daily driving I got what you have.........ouch.
All my Corvette have pitted and chipped something fierce. I have never had a car with windshield issues like a Corvette.

Have a glass specialist complete the minor repair. Keep the claims with the insurance to a minimum. Be assured you will get more of them.
The design of the C7, low to the ground, angle of hood, and windshield will undoubtly result in this happening again. I have the same small type of chip, minor, drivers left near A pillar. I have not contacted the insurance company. I will await until I get more of them, which of course I hope does not happen.
You can buy the Rain-X windshield repair kit for $10. For a small chip like you describe, clean the area with alcohol, put a drop of the resin on the spot, cover it with one of the plastic sheets supplied in the kit, and move the car into the sun for 15 minutes for it to cure. Remove the plastic sheet and scrape off the excess resin with a razor blake. I fixed several on my windshield and they totally disappeared. (You don't need to use the apparatus supple in the kit for small nicks.) Good luck!
Almost all glass companies repair out of driver's line of sight chips up to a certain size. I do not think a chip the size you are describing is repairable at all as it is too small and it is just something you will have to live with as there is not enough fracture for the resin to adhere to.

Called glass doctor and described chip. He called it a sand chip. To small to repair. If no visible crack nothing for resin to adhere to. Said SOL.
Just have to live with it unless want windshield replaced. At this point seems like overkill. Crap!!
I would have the chip filled anyway even if you do it yourself it keeps the chip the way it is and nothing else can start to make it bigger.
When I get one like that I stop at the glass place, the guy puts resin in the spot, I was there years ago with my old z06 that it stabilizes the chip so it can't go any further.
He told me most of the time the chip vanishes, on my old car it made it tougher to notice, I knew it was there but other people didn't see it.

I tried to have them out to fix it. I was willing to pay the 109.00
He asked me to send a pic and he said its to small. I'm gonna get over it. If it gets worse I'll just replace the WS.
Thanks for the feedback!
Just returned from Safelite.
I have 2 chips on the windshield I got the day after I bought the car. Had about 40 miles on it.
The tech said the chips were pits and not repairable.
The pits are noticeable from 15 feet.
You would think there would be something that would stick to the glass and make the pits less noticeable.

Are you sure your insurance company would even pay for a windshield replacement on such a small chip? If it were me, I'd wait for something more significant to occur before tearing into a windshield replacement.
Most insurance companies will waive the deductible for the repair of a small chip, because it reduces the chance of it turning into a crack that will require the entire windshield to be replaced. I've had chips repaired at no cost to me twice.
Those small chips drive me crazy as well. At first, I obsess over the chip (just my OCD kicking in) and then over time it eventually does not bother me. Hope you get it fixed to your satisfaction.
