iOS 9 was just released and I've heard Apple Car play would now be untethered. Can someone with a 16 after they do the download please confirm that you no longer need to be plugged in to the unit for car play to work? Thanks in advance.

The release notes for iOS 9 indicate that the cars **** will be able to control scrolling in car play now. I guess I have an excuse to go for a ride tonight.
Updated my 6 Plus to iOS 9 tonight and I have a 2016 coupe. Tomorrow morning I am going to see what's changed during my ride in to work. Apple has said that iOS 9 brings improvements to CarPlay. Other than wireless CarPlay I haven't been able to find any mention of what these improvements are. I'll report back to this thread with anything I discover.
On a related side note, I really like iOS 9. It's a great upgrade with many useful improvements.
I've noticed under general settings there is now a car play menu that wasn't there before and when you click on it there is an icon for wireless car play but I've heard Chevy will not support untethered until late 2017.
CarPlay in iOS 9 also includes deeper support for car control systems, so a car's ***** can be used to control CarPlay features. Apps developed by car manufacturers are available in CarPlay as well, so car features can be accessed without the need to leave the CarPlay interface.
Though I haven't had a chance to test it yet, I think this means the scrolling **** with the menu button in the center might work to scroll, rather than swiping or tapping the up or down buttons on the right side of the screen.
Unfortunately the selection **** on the infotainment system has no function in CarPlay. I didn't see much difference overall but didn't dig too deeply so there may be some changes I am so far unaware of.
This update did fix one big annoyance for me. Before this update pressing the talk button on the steering wheel did not cause Siri to work properly. The interface would appear on screen but it was frozen and not waiting for my voice input. Now with iOS 9 Siri has the new more colorful interface like on the iPhone and responds each time I press the button.
If I discover more new things I will post them here.
