Finally had an appointment to get the differential checked out by the local dealer after the selling dealer failed to check after I specifically requested they do so, leaving it 1 qt low.
Service manager was very cordial, shop foreman handled the evaluation and seemed knowledgeable. Said I'd filled it back to the proper level, fluid was clear, w/o evidence of foreign material, nothing of note on the magnetic surface of the fill plug.
Ideally, I'd have liked for them to drop the fluid and look inside with a borescope but was surprised to learn they didn't have one.
But...it is all documented with the dealer and GM to protect me in the event of a problem outside the normal warranty period.
Of possible interest to some, the GM computer said change the diff and auto transmission fluid at 45,000 miles. If you think I'm wrong, don't beat on me, I'm simply relaying what the shop foreman said Don

Owners Manual says to change auto transmission at 97,500 under "normal" operating conditions and at 45,000 under "severe" conditions.

I just changed my differential fluid today at 7,500 miles. There was a significant amount of deposits on both the fill and drain plug...
Most likely from the clutch packs, not metal particles.
About the same as MikeinAZ
I would normally wait longer to change the transmission fluid, but from previous post, guess I should at least check the level...

Umm...mine had nothing like that on it, just a tiny discoloration. Don
I had the oil changed yesterday. Because of previous post about the differential oil being low, I asked them to check the level. SUPRISE, almost a quart low. I suggest that all C7 owners ask their dealers to check fluid level in the differential!!
How many miles on your car?
Did not see any metal particles, so most of the deposits are likely just from the clutch pack.
15 mo and 6900 miles. The car is quieter after the addition of the qt of GM spec oil. I'm of the view that no damage was done, maybe being gentle with the car payed dividends??
I just resent the selling dealer not doing what I specifically asked them to do, something that would at most have taken 15 min to accomplish. Don
