I just called Techron @ 1-800-526-3013 and was transferred to a technician. Technician states the 10oz "New Look" has a higher concentration than the 12 & 20oz.

10oz "New Look" is good for 15 he stated.

* U gotta dig deep sometimes to see what the previous generations have gone through over time.
Good info & heads-up on what could be pending: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show....php?t=3433097

I use Top Tier premium fuel, Shell, Exxon, BP mostly and do not see the need for an additive like Techron. Am I in the minority?

I don't think it's really necessary either. Can't hurt to throw a bottle in once in a while, but certainly not every 3000 miles. If I stored my car over the winter, maybe I'd toss a bottle in come spring.

I think you are right on. I’ve posted many times that Techron in addition to top tier gas does more harm than good with the possible exception of use AFTER a gas gauge failure. This comes from the perspective of an oil company chemical engineer who has seen a lot of actual engine test data. Just like you can have too much detergent in your washing machine, you can have too much in your engine. Detergent itself leaves some residue, and once you’ve gotten to the point that detergent has done as much as it’s going to do, adding more detergent just increases detergent residue without giving any more cleaning. With top tier gas, you are close to that point. Adding detergent in addition to the additive packages in top tier gas pushes you beyond the point. I’m certainly not saying you will do serious harm by using too much detergent, but I am saying you will be slightly worse off.

And as far as gas gauge stuff, it is thought to be a rapid problem if you are unlucky and get a batch of gas with aggressive sulfur compounds. Most of the time with current low sulfur gasoline, that does not happen. But sometimes, the very technology that removes the sulfur in refineries can have a problem and result in formation of small amounts of unusually aggressive sulfur compounds. So think sudden problem, not gradual build up. Since it isn’t a gradual build up, then even if you think Techron can help broken gas gauges (and there is considerable evidence that sometimes it does help), the help is by using it to get back on track after you’ve had a problem, not by using it continuously. It would only help to use it continuously if that was countering a slow, gradual build up of a gas gauge problem.

So bottom line, my advice is use top tier gas without any extra additives. If you have a gas gauge failure, try a can. It might help, and using it briefly won’t hurt. If you insist on using it anyway, you aren’t doing any serious harm. But you are spending the money, and your engine will be very slightly dirtier due to excess detergent residue than an engine run on top tier by itself.
