And as far as gas gauge stuff, it is thought to be a rapid problem if you are unlucky and get a batch of gas with aggressive sulfur compounds. Most of the time with current low sulfur gasoline, that does not happen. But sometimes, the very technology that removes the sulfur in refineries can have a problem and result in formation of small amounts of unusually aggressive sulfur compounds. So think sudden problem, not gradual build up. Since it isn’t a gradual build up, then even if you think Techron can help broken gas gauges (and there is considerable evidence that sometimes it does help), the help is by using it to get back on track after you’ve had a problem, not by using it continuously. It would only help to use it continuously if that was countering a slow, gradual build up of a gas gauge problem.
So bottom line, my advice is use top tier gas without any extra additives. If you have a gas gauge failure, try a can. It might help, and using it briefly won’t hurt. If you insist on using it anyway, you aren’t doing any serious harm. But you are spending the money, and your engine will be very slightly dirtier due to excess detergent residue than an engine run on top tier by itself.
