Is there such a thing as "soft" glass in the C7. I've got several very small divots in the windshield. These aren't the star cracks--I've got one on my Jeep and Dodge pickup and the sound was like a rifle shot when I got them. I haven't heard anything like that driving the C7.
These things are slightly larger than the tip of a ball point pen and you can't see them as much as you can feel them with your fingernail. I had Safelite out to fix the chip in the pickup a couple months ago and he put some epoxy a 2-3 of the divots on the C7. He said they probably wouldn't turn into star cracks anyway. Now I've got 2-3 more.
Tailgating is bad for glass and hoods, trucks with homemade flaps or no flaps will get you every time, stay back or go around them.
Sound advice.
My windshield has a star the size of a nickle at the very top on the passenger side - thanks to my lack of patience for sub-speed limit left-lane idiots.
Safelite "repaired" it yesterday, but I don't know if I can live with it. I may have it replaced, but will probably wait till Spring.
As mentioned above, it sounded like a rifle shot when it happened.
I have accumulated several over the last year in the C7. I drive on the freeway often. This glass seems to get the "divots" easier than previous C5s and C6s. YMMV.
It does appear that the C7 windshield is softer than previous models. We just returned from our 4400 mile delivery trip, and while in Georgia I had two semi trucks who had thrown treads and continued to drive. As I was going around the first I saw something come shooting all the way across the lanes and heard the contact, and had a small pinhead impact.
The second also scattered shrapnel across all the lanes, and apparently added two more small dings towards the middle of the windshield.
Very subtle and hard to see, so likely nothing to do, but disheartening for a 1 day old car at the time with only a couple of hundred miles on it.

My C7 is OK so far, but my previous 2014 Cadillac CTS Coupe and my wife's 2011 Cadillac SRX get chips and cracks very easily -had to have the SRX windshield replaced last year when it was dinged and got a crack that started growing. I think I read something that said GM was using a new glass that is more sound proof and I wonder if that is the tradeoff for quiet?

My thoughts exactly, the glass seems soft to me. Picked up a piece of sand in Key West and now have an ark scratch from using the washer on my drivers side of the windshield. Like a knife in the heart...
I got my 15 about 6 months ago. The first time I was washing it I saw a very small chip in the WS glass. The dealer had a repair man look at it and he said it was so small he couldn't even repair it. The only option I had was to replace the WS. I said No. Yesterday my friends were on the way back from Az and they went thru a hail storm and the WS now has a chip in it. Something does appear to be different in the glass...
I suffered two chip on my C7 during my first road trip from MD down to VIR for the IMSA race. 18 wheeler went around me doing about 80 while I was breaking in my engine and running about 70 in 5th gear. Took it to Safelite and they said they were too small to repair but I asked them to try it anyway to see if they would be less conspicuous. Repair was performed but not much difference. My insurance company, USAA, said they would pay for a replacement with OEM glass but I declined for now after reading about what is required to replace the windshield in a C7, no small job. I have 3 years from the date of the original claim to get it replaced. Since I plan to drive my car year round I will likely get some more chips this winter. I keep telling myself "it's only a car", but it still hurts. I've read that all car manufacturers are using thinner glass to save weight, not sure about the "hardness" compared to the glass on older cars.

My windshield suffered a fatal blow in the first three months. I watched them do the replacement. It wasn't pretty.
Please explain the replacement process!!!! What do they do that's different from normal replacement!! Concerned
The entire interior molding along the top had to come out as well as the mirror assembly. Also make sure they remove the cowling at the bottom of the windshield on the outside. Here is a photo of mine disassembled.
60 miles on mine coming back from Geaorgia on I-20 after freak snow/ice storm in 2014 and picked up 2 of the small pits that line up with the reflection of the dash stitching thank goodness. 16K miles and got many more and Im not a tailgater.

Wholly Crap!!! What a nightmare. Did you use OEM glass replacement or something else. Any effect of HUD on glass?
