Default 2014 or newer

Hello all,

It is said that is is not good to buy a first year run of any car because of all of the first year bugs that might need to be worked out.

Can someone please chime in and tell me what the benefits of buying a 2015 or newer over a 2014? Were there any significant changes that I might want to take into consideration when shopping? I am interested in a convertible so when the time comes I want to already have ruled out a particular year is there is any reason to.

Thank you,

Dale

They weren't all new (as I'm not THAT old!) but I've owned a 63, 68, 84, 97 and 05, so I had to have the 14.

So far, so good.

The 2014 didn't come with with PDR, it's a cool feature but unless you track the car I wouldn't worry about it.

My 2014 has had the infotainment screen replaced but other than that has been just fine.

I bought an 05 C6 that was a year or so old with 3000 miles on it and it was flawless - owned it for 6 years.

My luck with first model year vettes has been great (knock on wood)

My c6 was an 05 as well. I had it for about 8 1/2-9 yrs (when the c7 came out), and my experience was similar. My maintenance record read battery, battery, battery, etc. But that was my fault for not driving her enough!

My C7 is two years old this week. It's my DD as was my C6. It has been to the dealer once, the month I got it and GM notified me to bring it in for a rear end fluid check. It was fine so had them install updated dash light software and that was it. Do my own maintenance as I did with my C6, enjoy knowing it's done right. Have over 25 mods, most minor others, i.e CF side skirts, hood vent, splitter, chrome grill bar cover added to match the OEM CF roof. Love the car.
It's up to the individual car not 2014 vs 2015 IMO. Could have issues with a new 2016. So far the features added in 2016 have little significance for me, to each his own.

I generally agree with the thought of waiting a year or two after a new model is introduced to smooth out issues. That said there have been few problems with C7 that I am aware of from day one. I know the auto trans in 2014 was a six speed and in 2015 Chevy came out with the 8 speed quick shifting trans. A few people who track/race their 2015 8 speed auto trans cars have had over heating issues. In 2016 cars Chevy added an additional trans cooler. I have a 2015 A8 trans car and have had no over heating issues but I do not track my car either. I think there have been some soft ware up grades as well. Buy the newest car you can afford in C7 to get the most up to date. That said I am honestly not aware of any year to avoid. You have to check out any used car. If you don't buy new, a Certified used Corvette would pass a number of quality control test and have extra warranty. Other wise if you buy used get it checked out. I would avoid a damaged or abused vehicle. Use Car Fax and get dealer history through Vin No. check. Always desirable to find a car with warranty as opposed to one without. Good Luck.

It not necessarily true anymore. The first year the designers and engineers fight to include as much as possible in the car. Now in subsequent years the cars can get worse as the bean counters try to reduce the cost and increase margins. It can sometimes be very subtle, for example the original 2010 camaro had 2 tail lamps on each side in 2014 they went to one big tail lamp.

I would not hesitate to buy a 14. Bought an 05 three months into the first year and had 10 years of trouble free enjoyment. 14 will probably still be under warranty.

I believe when you're buying Corvettes it's a different game. Their engineering design is far above average.

I think for the most part the first year avoidance due to bugs etc. Is a thing of the past. No reason to not purchase a 2014 unless you want the A8 transmission and PDR.

I have a mid year 2014. There was a recall on the fuel fill tube otherwise really nothing. I did have a seat leather delaminating issue (vender manufacturing issue adhesion problem), repaired under warranty. Really no reasons to purchase a newer version. There have been some software additions and deletions on DIC info; added wheel slip graphic on 2015, deleted 0 to 60 timer on 2016 and the starter button is now chrome. PDR is now included with factory navigation option since 2015, cost $1,000 additional.

I was thinking about trying to find a certified preowned car as they seem to have good warranty coverage, and have been thoroughly checked out. What are your thoughts?

Thank you all for helping me out. Since I am a noob, and have never owned a corvette, I appreciate all you guyz have said...

I also bought a 05 C6 and it was flawless no problems what so ever. Sold it in 2014 and purchased a 2015 C-7 and have roof problems.

Zero problems with my 14 C7 roof. Is yours the creaking problem?

I have a 2014 - my first Corvette ... bought it as dealer leftover in May this year. From my limited forum experience here and elsewhere I have seen no 2014 bugs or issues that were fixed in 2015+ cars .. only difference is changes in features and/or options.

There are many HD radio stations in the Atlanta area where I live .. and there is a noticeable improvement in sound quality when in HD mode. I don't track my car so the PDR function would be useless for me.

Certified is good, you get a car that has been inspected thoroughly and brought up to standards that Chevy expects from a car. Generally you will find fresh tires and many times new pads, along with a good detail job on a certified pre owned vehicle, and a better warranty ( some used cars get a dealer warranty, but not many. There may also be the oem warranty left on a '14 and most likely on a '15. ).
Those are the pluses the down side is that you will pay more as those little tidbits cost extra. Use Kelly Blue Book, Auto Trader or another online guide to check prices in your area.
Some colors add a bit to cost as do extra options on a car. I sold my '09 and got a couple of hundred extra because I had a color that met the sought after in my market. Z51 will cost more, Chevy will add for MSRC and 2lt-3lt, but you can probably get a discount for a vert as you are looking in the fall and vert season is about done.
I would definitely consider a certified as opposed to non certified.
Also, I would build the car I am looking for on the build your own site to get an idea of the sticker price, keeping in mind that the big dealers who sponsor this forum discount several thousand on new car sales. This will also give you an advantage in the purchase price.
Good luck and hope you find the car you want...don't settle for less.

I have a 2014 and the only thing I'd do differently if I got a later one would be it'd have an A8 instead of an A6. So far it's been great!

Yes, driver's side, when I release the roof handle, no more creaking. Waiting for GM to come up with a fix. Have followed some threads on this forum and some dealers are replacing handles, handle plates, washers, strikers and latches. I am waiting to see if any of these fixes last more than and month or two.

I'm still up in the air as to if I am going to get a, automatic or manual shift. My wife and I have always had manual sports cars and love them, so I don't know...
