Default Headlight condensation?

I noticed something strange yesterday at a local car show. It was a very sunny day and my wife asked me what was on my head light. I had never noticed it before and it is not on the outside of the head light but on the inside of the “sealed” unit. It looks like something dripping down the lens and condensation in the corner. Has anyone ever noticed this before? My car is always garaged. Do you think that warranty would replace them?

Yes. Somehow the seal is breached allowing moisture in. Good luck.

I have had other GM cars that did the same thing and they were replaced under warranty, so surely GM will replace them on a Corvette.

C6 headlights are noted for this problem. There is a vent hole to equalize atmospheric pressure. Under high humidity conditions and then followed by a lower ambient temperature, condensation can/will happen. Thinking the C7 has the same problem.

What did they do for the C6's? Did they say "that's just normal" or did they replace the headlight?

Yes, if they are like the C6, they are not truly sealed. Many have found flies, gnats, moths and spiders wandering about in there, and then they died, and are entombed like Alexander the Great and Snow White.

Seems to be dealer's call. Some have been replaced by warranty with dealer help. The condensation will evaporate but can leave residue.

Have the same issue. Posted some pics in this thread a while back:

https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...errerid=494536

Decided to hold off on having them replaced for now as it requires taking the whole front of the car apart.

I had mine replaced under warranty very soon after purchasing my Stingray in 2013. The replacements have done the same thing, but I'm not going to have them replaced until my warranty is almost up.

I'd take it in and ask the dealer to cover a replacement under warranty.

When you had them replaced did they put the front end back together properly? Was any of the paint chipped and were the panels aligned? Also, did they get the headlights adjusted correctly? I'm a bit apprehensive having the local dealership take the front end apart and putting it back together.

This is always a concern anytime you have dealership do anything to your car. If the problem is something small and you you can live with it, I generally let it go. If it's something I cannot live with, it goes in for warranty work.

You can always bring the car back if they did some damage or improperly reassembled the car. You also have the lemon law to fall back on if things go horribly wrong.

It's been my experience with every car I've owned that repairs are done professionally and to my satisfaction by dealerships.

You will hear the occasional horror story but for the vast majority repairs are done properly especially if it's something easily identified compared to the occasional gremlin.

For your problem, I'd take it to the dealer in a heartbeat for a fix.

Shoot, taking the headlight pods out is easy! When I replaced my OEM grill with the Z06, I also changed the OEM lights to a 6K bulb. Getting the nose off is easy, just a lot of damn screws to remove to have it off! The light pods sit one way so you can't screw up the positioning. I marked the light height on my garage wall and it was in the same place after the change. If it weren't, there is an adjustment that can be done.

I'm also proud to report that all of the screws found a home. I didn't have any left over after the work!

If they will replace the pods, get it done. You sure as hell don't want to replace them on your dime after the warranty expires. What are they $1800 each or something totally ridiculous????

The Corvette assembly plant replaced them when my car went back to the plant for a complete repaint. Everything was lined up properly nad the headlights adjusted properly. The work my dealership has done for me at other points has been very good, but only you can determine if you can trust your local dealership or not.

Just an update on my headlight moisture problem. About 3 weeks ago I took the car into the dealership for an oil change and brought their attention to my headlights. The service manager said that that is defiantly covered by the warranty. He ordered two new headlights and said that he would give me a call when they came in. It took about a week for them to come in and he called to schedule a time to have them installed. The dealer that I use is about an hour away so I waited until the weather was going to be nice. So, today I made the drive and got there about 8:00am. They got the car right in and I was out the door and on my way home at 11:00am. Not one scratch, every seem and joint on the front end was perfect and the new headlights were adjusted perfectly. I was very satisfied with not only the service, and the folks at this dealership were great. I don’t know if I can mention them on the forum because they are not a member dealership. I will tell you, they had a beautiful 2016 Torch red Z06 convertible on the show room. Damn near left my car there to drive the Z06 home. I would have been homeless when I got home, but it might have been worth it. See ya!!!!
