Default Driving the "Twisted Sisters"

Went for a spirited drive this weekend on the "Twisted Sisters" in the Texas Hill Country with friends driving an Audi TTs and a Camaro SS. Weather was perfect and the drive was awesome. Highly recommend.

We, along with several other club members, have driven the Twisted Sisters twice in the past three years and both times were a blast. We did both on a Tuesday to avoid all the weekend traffic and both times had the three roads almost to ourselves. I highly recommend them to everyone, what a great 200+ miles to really enjoy your Corvette.

Will be there this weekend, but on our Spyders, not the Vette. Should be a beautiful weekend.

Thanks. If I ever get back down to Texas, I'll have to check it out.

Well, the group thing didn't pan out because of the rain all day Saturday. As luck would have it I had a non-refundable hotel in NW San Antonio on Saturday night so I headed up there anyway. Sunday morning ended up clearing to the West so I went on the run solo (car, that is, just me and the Wife). It was still a blast and the base C7 handles incredibly well. Track mode with performance shift is really fun. I thought one time I came in a little to fast to a turn and really though that I was in for a world of hurt, but the car wanted more I think as I didn't even activate any of the nannies LOL. Highly recommend doing the run with a group or alone, as always after doing the run I'm ready to go back

I took your cue and drove the Sisters about a week ago. Quite an experience. It took about two hours to get there from my home in Lago Vista, TX. The whole trip lasted about nine hours. I averaged 30.8MPG for the trip. Next time I will make it a several day excursion and take time to really enjoy the attractions in this beautiful area. Coincidentally, my car is virtually identical to yours as depicted in your photo.

Glad you enjoyed it. We drove over and spent the night before at the Inn of the Hills in Kerrville. Next time, drive the roads in the other direction. I'm told its a completely different drive.

This ! True of many great roads. Beartooth pass in MT being another of them along with Chief Josef Highway in WY. The Snake, US 421 (http://www.421thesnake.com/) is also an excellent drive and no where near as crowded as the Dragon. They should be on every Corvette owners bucket list.

Not true. Not saying there is none near ranch driveways and such but no more than you see on other texas highways. Lots of motorcycles on those roads and they are much more wary of gravel than you.

There was little gravel on the roads of THE SISTERS, but a good deal of construction and road repair (with tar and gravel) on the way to THE SISTERS after Fredricksburg.

It's better to go solo cause a row of cars attracts unwanted attention.

Funny story about the cops in El Campo at the end of 337. My good friend was arrested for speeding out there on 337 and I stayed in the little town to bail him out the next day (when the banks opened). We were all on sport-bikes back then. When I got to the jail the 'prisoners' including my friend were sitting out on the curb chatting. The cop handed me the keys to his car and had me go and get his shotgun for him and then I had to go buy TV dinners at the convenience store for the prisoners! The next day we went to the Judge's home which was a trailer, on a Saturday. He had chickens everywhere! I had a speeding ticket too but I pulled over and waited as soon as I saw the cop so they didn't arrest me. So the judge told me I owed him $100 for the ticket and I handed them cash and the ticket I had been written and that was the end of that.

Texas in the late '90s buddy! It's not like that anymore.

I also proposed to my very pregnant wife in a cabin at Lost Maples. Good memories out there.
