Default Home link issues

Yup, I tried the search for above but found nothing that applied to this situation.
Have a friend who recently picked up his C7 and is having issues in programming above. His attached garage has an opener which is 30+ years old. No problem in programming that unit.
He also has a detached garage with a lift and the opener is about 10 years old and it will not program to a home link button. He has tried the usual hand unit held up to the buttons; also the going to the lift unit, pushing the red(?) button.
Nothing worked.
Ideas?

Generally, if you cannot program the Homelink using a remote then you need to go to the unit and press the Learn button. From my understanding the Learn button says to the unit "project out the codes you need to operate" and the Homelink will see them. Most garage door openers have a Learn button. Google the manufacturer - find the old manual's PDF and learn how to operate your unit's Learn button.

Me? I have I the garage working with Homelink but as I live in a gated apartment complex, I'd really like to program the gate code too. Took pictures of the gate openers, Googled them, got the PDF... the manuals said there was a learn button but the diagram they showed did not match the pictures I took of the gate opening unit. So I emailed the original manufactures with my pictures and said, effectively, "Hey where's the Learn button". I got back a long string of emails within their company trying to help me. What they came up with was that the program unit for that was not installed in my apartment complex's gate opener. IOW the Learn button was removed! Crap! I got the name of a local dealer and may go up there to find out how much one would cost. Hell I'd stealthily install it if I could get it to work right. I wonder though because I know the office does "program keys" for the gate. Perhaps they have the removed receiving unit...

Had the same issue trying to program the HomeLink visor buttons to operate the Genie door. Using the older "slower" remote solved the problem. Check out link below

Probably specifically to prevent what you want to do? To prevent bad guys from making their own remotes somehow???

You might try talking to the management and ask them how they do it and if they would be willing to help you program your home link. Just saying...never hurts to ask. Working in IT I encounter people all the time who have gone to great lengths to create their own work around for something when it they had just asked, we would have helped them. No idea if thats the case here.
