I have been trying to get the exact date of mfg for my 2016 Z51. The sticker on the door states "08/16". I called Chev Cust Ser and was told that the day of build was June 29, 2015. He told me that the sticker on the door was applied AFTER the car was released from mfg to distribution. So, after it came off the line, it was held for 1+ months before the door sticker was applied. I also asked it the serial nbr (it ends in G5100658) indicated that it was the 658th 2016 to come off the line . He said that the VIN has no relationship to the mfg sequence and is a reference nbr relating to the dealers ordering request. Go figure!!
His VIN comment is off base. VINs are assigned sequentially, but there are multiple VINs with the same last 5 digits because certain versions have VINs with something other than 1 before the last 5. For example, VIN for the 1st Z06 would end in 600001. Other special editions (like the 2014 Premier Coupe and Convertible editions) are also given VINs that have something other than 1 before the last 5 digits. Therefore, the last 5 does not indicate the order off the line. The VIN has NOTHING to do with the dealer that ordered it.
Any Chevy dealer can lookup your VIN in the GMVIS and get the build date (plus lots of other fascinating info).
I think the story about the door sticker is also BS.
You also might look in the equipment/battery box area for a sticker like this. My final assembly was on 3/13/14 and this pre-final assembly work was done on 3/3/14. So if your sticker like this shows about 8-10 days before June 29, Your car was not made in August.
I toured the plant on 8/6 and they were producing 130 cars a day at that stage into the 2016 model year and I believe 2016's started coming off the line in early/mid June. So that June 29 date sounds just about right if you ask me.

June the 29th sounds about right. My z51 was built the 22/23 of June, my vin is 235 so with the mix of Z06's as Zymurgy states that's probably the cars birthday!

The sequence #, which is usually on build sheets is the number that the vehicle came off the line. It is the combination of the Z06 and the Stingray. I can't get the damn picture to post properly, but you can see the sequence # and the build # on one of my build sheets. Top right second row.
