I'd like to think I'm not the only new owner that is overwhelmed by all the subscriptions that came with this car...I mean Sirius, Data, Phone minutes, Oil Changes, Roadside Assistance, OnStar, XM radio, etc. Hell, I didn't even realize the car has it's own cell number!
I would love to see a timeline that was created to track these items. Reading hundreds of hit-and-miss posts about trouble issues with these features tells me a lot of us feel confused as well.
For instance, did I give Onstar my credit card number for the $5 of "intro" minutes for the cell phone (the car's; not my iPhone)? or was that Onstar's sneaky way of auto-renewing when the 3-month, 6-month, or 12-month subscription (whatever) renews? Or was it for something else that went right over my head during the dealer explanation of the car's features?
As I read thru these posts, I see so much confusion about what a feature actually is, what it costs, when it renews, and how it renews....?
Should a comprehensive list like this be a sticky ?

You really should not have given out your credit card number. Good luck getting out of the quagmire.
It's sirius and onstar. Through onstar you get the phone minutes which,if you don't renew with onstar you lose at the end. SIRIUS IS A WHOLE OTHER STORY. Good luck telling them not to charge your card without your permission..none of the 2 is mandatory. However, you don't get anything without onstar which is a ton of money now,no updates about car,no phone,no nothing.

I do not use on star or most of that other crap. (never activated it)
I get my free oil changes OK, do not remember having to sign anything to get that other than the contract for the car.
I would think the same for roadside assistance IF EVER NEEDED. it comes with the car. Only need it once since I bought my 98 Vert in April 98!
There is no way in heck I would ever give out my CC for stuff like that.
Benn on this forum a long time and there are hundreds of stories concerning CCs and onstar and the radio channels providers. For what its worth I live in the mountains and contrary to the bullch*t they say satellite radio and cell phones do not work good (if at all) where I live! FWIW there is no cell reception for at least 5 miles in any direction from where I live. Nav seems to work OK!
On my last few new Vettes (C6 and C7) two different dealers told me flat out to NEVER give OnStar your CC number. I followed their advice and have had no problems yet after the "free" time period ran out (other than filling up waste baskets with OnStar and Sirius junk mail...)

Never had an issue with onstar, only SIRIUS way back when. Now they send me a bill.I'm not renewing though for 256 a year! They wanted 120 after i called and i said still to much. Then they said "well, what about 60 every 6 months"...lol um..no.
Simply report that CC stolen and get a new number issues. Let onstar try to charge the old number...
But it doesn't really matter. It's actually quite easy to get reimbursed from the CC company if you call them and tell them you never OKed that transaction. They must give you your money back. I don't know why people say "good luck" - it's not hard to do - I've done it many times.
What I want is a credit card with a strict limit of say $25 so the worse that could happen is that you lose $25. Use it for those sites who want your CC to "verify you age" or "in case you want this later", then let them try to charge you for that which you didn't agree. Good luck!

What would be the point of that? I could never understand why I would want yet another account to manage so that I can make phone calls from my car when I already have a cell phone with it's own account that I can make phone calls from my car - and anywhere else! Again, what's the point?
or was that Onstar's sneaky way of auto-renewing when the 3-month, 6-month, or 12-month subscription (whatever) renews?
Tell them to pound salt, call your CC company and dispute the charge. Problem over.
I made the mistake of "purchasing" some minutes for the Car's phone then Onstar tries to automatically renew my subscription... good thing the card has expired....Otherwise it would have gone through before i knew it. Never used the minutes.....
Onstar is ok BUT not for the money they charge... for $20 bucks a year, i would have it... for $20 a month... no way.... i never use it to justify the kind of money they want....
They should offer a service based on usage... you get 5 calls per year for $20 and then $2 a call... that would seem fair.
I've never given a cc number to either OnStar or XM. We have retained the Safe & Sound plan on my wife's SRX, my ATS, and the C7 but that's all. I wouldn't even listen to their presentation when I got my ATS coupe a few weeks ago-just said I wasn't interested in any phone minutes and wouldn't give them a cc number. The rep probably didn't appreciate my attitude but why waste both our time? I have Sirius/XM on all three and get billed monthly. It's a couple of $ more that way but no long term committment and no cc history.
