Default Another Vette Order Delayed - Next Steps? Help Requested

I put my deposit down about 1.5 months ago for a '16 Z51 and called my dealer for an update on the build code as well as a potential TPW date. They said it was still stuck at 1100 and hadn't started yet due to the recent Z51 constraints. I did some searching online and was able to find a new '16 Z51 with all my options and then some (carbon fiber roof) out in Michigan for the same price from a dealer.

Is it even possible to have my dealer trade my build allocation that's currently hung up for the Michigan dealer's vette and have it transported here? I was already miserable these last 6 weeks waiting and seriously can't stand waiting another 3 - 4 months, possibly longer, for my build to be delivered. If not, I'll probably end up getting my deposit back on the build, fly out to Michigan for inspection and paper signing, and have it transported back here to LA.

Was wondering if you guys had any recommendations on the best course of action here.

Cancel your order and buy the one you found.

It's obvious the dealer you ordered from doesn't have allocations but won't tell you that.

Your dealer doesn't have an allocation. I'd get your deposit back and call a forum dealer. They all seem to have pretty good stock right now. I'd spend a little time browsing each of their websites to start, then I'd make a few calls, especially if you don't want to wait. The train ride out west can add weeks to the end of your order too. Good luck!

Is there a difference between buying it from the Michigan dealer and the Forum Dealers?

It's weird, I've gone into the dealership over the last 3 months and they always have new vette's coming off the transport truck and seem to be power selling like crazy. The first thing I asked their GSM when I was placing the build order was if they had allocations because I really wanted to take delivery as soon as possible and they confirmed they had plenty of them.

Could be waiting a long time for the dealer to have an allocation.

I had the same problems with 2 dealers stating they had allocations and was stuck at 1100 for 6 weeks at the 2 different dealers. Found my 2015 C7 1LT with 95% of the options sitting in a dealers showroom and just bought the car outright, and had it shipped to New Mexico. I got tired of waiting. Glad I did what I did.

The C7 was delivered in 3 days once it was loaded on the transport carrier.

Thanks for your input. What was the out of state buying process like for you? I'm not sure if it's necessary for me to fly to Michigan or if they are willing to make a trade with my local dealer to have me purchase it here in LA.

Dealers will not trade Corvettes. There is holdback money etc. it's not worth it to them.

Self_Made:

The last dealer #2 who could not get me the allocation (after waiting about 5 weeks) simply bought the C7 from the dealer in NE and my dealer then drove 250 miles to bring it back to MO. on a flatbed trailer. Then had it transported to me via a professional auto transport. It was a dealer to dealer purchase. My dealer found the C7 via the GM internal computer system. Sent me the VIN. I researched the VIN, found the dealer in NE and agreed to the dealer to dealer sale and proceeded forward.

While the allocation situation was a nightmare, the final purchase went very smooth. Ended up with 12.3% off MSRP. $64,101 MSRP, my price was: $56,216.....Plus the $900 for auto transport.

I never saw the Corvette personally. I saw the window sticker and since it was a GM to GM dealer transaction, my dealer provided paperwork with all options listed. It was a clean deal. I paid cash and simply sent a cashiers check via overnight to the dealer. All the paperwork was sent via FedEx overnight back and forth. It was painless.

The C7 only had 5 miles on it when I paid for it. The dealer arranged the transport and I paid $900 to have it transported 900 miles.

Just look on MACMAULKIN's website or KERBECK and see what they have on the ground.

Well you finally gave us some info on where you are located--L.A.

OP, not trying to knock you when you're down trying to get a car, but people like nm, Steve, etc. are trying to help you figure out the process. You joined in Sept. If you'd read some of these threads on buying a car and those who did poorly at it because of a lack of info, you'd probably have chosen a different dealer---one that has something at stake---their reputation, so they wouldn't bs you on allocations and cars.

My suggestion is you read up on here all the threads you can find about who delivers the goods and those who don't. There is a tremendous wealth of info on the buying process. And you just got lucky to have three people take the time, write it down for you. BTW there are at least a half dozen to ten forum dealers on CF who can deliver the goods! Good luck.

I mentioned in the original post that I'm from LA if you want to take a moment to read it again. Yea I joined in September to make my first thread, but I've been reading these forums for at least a year. I also went to 7 of my local dealers, all of them, and got a feel for what they're all about and their reputation -- I've done my due diligence in person and selected the best one. I also checked out all of the ten forum dealers and none of them had what I wanted before making this post. I responded and thanked the people who did reply that took the time to write down a helpful response. Don't be so quick to judge dude, you come off like a jerk, especially given the fact that you didn't contribute anything to the topic.

We have available allocation for this week's orders with no constraints. If we have your order by Tuesday your order will be at event code 3000 on Wednesday.

I won't be back in the showroom till Monday but call today and ask for Terri G and she can get you started.

As Dave mentioned (Kerbeck) they have an allocation and can get your car accepted. Dealers know their upcoming allocations and can provide paperwork, if asked. I learned this the hard way, waited five months for my order to be accepted (I changed dealers after three months and my car was accepted the following week). My next order - No paperwork showing allocation, no order.
