Default 2016 A8 trans problem gone.

The A8 trans in in my 2016 Z51 had a problem when cold shifting from 1st to 2nd. It would lag for a couple seconds before it shifted. I just returned from a 1200 mile trip. It now has 2400 miles on it. It now shifts from 1st to 2nd with no lag. Is the trans adaptive? Did it teach itself how to shift properly?

Mine (A8 2015) did the same thing. However, after 2-3K miles it changed like it should.

Yes, the trans adapts to your driving style over a period of time. People underestimate just how sophisticated the A8 transmission is.

Same here. After 2500 miles, perfect shifting.

Same here, not sure when it smoothed itself out but 3,600 miles now and I haven't noticed the cold 1-2 lurch in a while. Come to think of it I haven't noticed the downshift issue when coming to a stop either

You gotta luv that adaptive learning....my wife's car had that perk. I wouldn't drive her car for several weeks, but when I did....it had to re-learn me...."yes, I mean 'goooo NOW!!!'"

I just prefer manuals

I have just over 500 miles on my car in two months and the A8 shifting seems to have already improved from day one.

Good to hear that in many cases the car adapts and the A8 shifts improve.

My 2015 A8 was o.k. for several months after re-flashing and re-learning. Just the other day the problem came back again for one shift. I'm hoping that my self-learning transmission does not turn out to be a special needs student.

Had mines reflashed, now a few months later, it is officially back. Even violent then before. If I have to get it reflashed a couple times a year, I wouldve went the manual route instead.

Had the same problem. Returned a few weeks after a software update. Heard several people with similar issues resolved by retraining the A8. I basically drove the hell out of it for a few days, and voila. Cleared up within a couple days after that and not had an issue for months.

I have noticed that it is getting better now that I am at 500 miles, but I just let it warm up a little before I drive it. Good to know that it will go away.

Same here. Fine for awhile after the reflash then back to its old tricks again. It may seem like its gone but when you least expect it it will rear its ugly head once again.

The 2016 impala I am currently driving (A6) also shifts hard when cold. It currently has 1400 miles.

I think this is ecu holding shifts until higher revs to warm up cats. EPA crap.

I can see where it would be even more obvious on the A8 with taller gearing.

My 2016 A8 has 2028 miles on it now. It's still surging into 1st gear when slowing down to a stop. I've been thinking about bringing it in, but if more miles will correct it I'd rather hold off.
