Default The dreaded NOISE question

hi .. 2015 C7 coupe with 6800 miles since April. A "rattling noise" like the old "tap tap " from lifters coming from what seems like the area behind the Info center. Had 7500 mil check done. My tech of years said that it's "injectors" and that the noise should subside beyond idle. However, it has gotten louder in the last month; occurs not only at 800-1000 rpm in neutral but also at 1200-1500 rpm in neutral or drive ( A8 tran) . LOVE my car but can't believe that this noise is "standard equipment" as per the tech. At a light, it's LOUD. Ok ... Corvette owners are sensitive to anything but the "tat tat tat " can be heard above the radio etc.
Ideas or experience with it ??? THANKS < Bob

Did you buy the car new? or with 6800 miles in April? Reason I ask is if you bought it new I'm pretty sure you would have noticed the very noisy injectors before this, and this may very well be something else.
Other than that I agree with your Tech; these DI's are very noisy and at times can sound as loud as lifters clacking. I pulled into a McDee's drive through and sitting next to the wall running with the window down my car sounded like a wash-machine with rocks in it. They are noisy and for us picky or gearhead vette guys can sound a little irritating. BUT every time I nail it and it comes to life it puts a smile on my face!! LOL

I just replaced the flex plate in my 2016 A8. Rattling noise at idle and very noticible at lights. Rattling noise is now gone and I can actually hear the direct injection clicking. Totally different noise than bad flex plate.

THANK YOU for replies. I bought car with ZERO MILES and as mentioned, noise was not as evident til about two months ago. AGREE 100% that the performance is stunning. I'm going to dealer tech next week to drive car with him. Will mention your comment on the plate. Again, I can't believe that the factory would not have noticed a noise like this one on every car and considered it ok for this group of fanatics!

I don't worry about noises, they come and go as the mileage accumulates. Unless the engine isn't running properly (dreaded check engine light) or fails to run I don' t get to concerned. If there is a loud clunk and the engine stalls with a large puddle of oil on the ground then time to be concerned.

It replaces the flywheel in the auto transmission
Manual has flywheel, auto has flex plate

Is it like the torque converter in the older automatic transmissions

All automatics have flex plates AND torque converters. Flex plate would be analogis to fly wheel and torque converter equivalent to clutch.

What is flexing in the flex plate, and to what purpose?

Could be the fuel pump.

Mine started making a noticeable noise at ~11.5k miles. Sounds like a bad bearing coming from behind the infotainment screen. It is loudest around 1800 RPM.

nothing is flexing. Its a large diameter steel plate with the starter gear teeth on the outside. It bolts to the crank shaft and torque converter.
