Default Question on security while using a battery tender

Decided to use the Corvette Battery Tender that came with the Z51. I like the idea of just a partial shut of the trunk lid so the wires won't make too much of an indentation on the weather stripping. What I'm not sure about is the security feature while leaving the trunk partially shut. Page 2-17 in the manual . Fast Flash - Vehicle is unsecured A door, the hood or the hatch/trunk is open. Can the security be set with the trunk lid partially open? Experience is the best teacher so.......

And my experience after just over 2 years shutting the hatch completely can be judged in these two pictures. The weather stripping is hollow and compresses nicely around the power cord.

The microfiber cloth keeps the cord off the fender paint.

Cord moved to show weather stripping

EDIT: And I do it this way so not to leave an opening through which a mouse (mice) can get to my 3LT leather interior over winter. Had that happen once in another car.

No security with trunk hatch open. Best bet close completely over the cord. The cord is flat and will do no damage to the seals, weatherstripping, etc.

Most just gently close the hatch or trunk on the cord. Personally, I HATE to squeeze an electrical cord for ANY reason especially for extended periods of time. Were I to store my car for the winter, I would do this: http://www.ls2.com/forums/showthread...hlight=battery

As it is, I live in Florida and drive the car year round. I still slap the car on the C-Tek when I park in the garage. I just like to have the battery topped off at all times. There are a lot of days where I do nothing but short trips and might not get the battery fully recharged before I park it for the night.

I don't have a garage, so if I use the charger, I do close the hatch completely and lock the car. As others have said, there is no damage to the weather seal.

Exactly how I have done it since I got my 2014, and now with my 2016 Z06. Zero issues with the weather stripping, it was just has hard to close the hatch on the day that I sold the '14 as it was the day I bought it. With the '16 the auto-close is very nice to have.

Thanks all, I had the cloth for the paint protection but when I did a 2 week storage with the tender i did notice I could see where the cord had been but if it is the experience of all that it does no long term damage to the weather stripping I will close completely, security set, leave her snuggled for a holiday nap and hope the crooks don't figure a way in through a secured garage. News has been ripe with many ways of finding easy money for Christmas. Easy money, As where we got our cars the old fashioned way "we worked for them". Best Holiday wishes to all!!

Sold! Just read this and paused the Manchester United game and went downstairs and did this as I didn't like the way the tender draped over the side of the car. The anti-mouse concept also helped seal the deal...

For the 1st several months I always closed the trunk all the way down, and like others, I placed a small cloth around the tender wires where it met the car, etc. All was well...............then about two months ago I started having trouble with the tender. It seemed to be OK for a half hour or so (think even a few hours one time), and then it starts to go crazy with the orange lights flashing. If I don't close the trunk down all the way it works fine.

Just a suggestion...........maybe check the tender every few days if you close the trunk all the way....just in case.

I put those Bounty dryer sheets around the tires, around the car, and under the hood---hopefully the mice won't be a bother (also put some of the landscaping weed protection material over the exhaust pipes). Then I covered the car with bed comforters.......just in case something falls from the shelving or my grandchildren get in the garage and knock something over.

I never thought about the mice. My 16 is stored in a friend's garage for the winter. This is my first time storing a car, so guess I'll try the dryer sheet trick and hope it works.

A garage dwelling tomcat works a lot better.

This will be my 1st year with the Bounce dryer sheets. I have read on the Forum here where many have suggested it, so............wish the best of success with this to the both of us.....
