Default C7 Air Box

This is my first post. My new C7 came in last Monday. A friend told me he swapped out the Air Box on his 2015. Has anyone got any insight on which way to go? There are several to choose from.

AFE seems to be a popular choice: good quality and performance and priced right. I installed mine 2 years ago and have been very happy

Great sound. Very high quality. This is a PDF of My Install with lots of pics. http://netwelding.com/Cold_Air_Intake.pdf
Pretty straight forward with a few tricks.

This ! Go with the dry version btw. Not much reduction in flow vs the oiled one. However, being dry, it will not cause any issues with the Mass Airflow Sensor. On the C6 it became an issue such that GM started rejecting warranty claims and in some cases iirc, locked down the power train coverage on some Corvettes.

AFE for sure, great quality products and fantastic customer support. I have both the oiled and dry filters, but prefer the dry for street use since it filters better and is easier/less messy to clean.

A safe suggestion. However I have used oiled cotton in my '88 and '93 Vette, the two modified S-10 trucks when between Vettes as well some prior cars. The key is to use very little oil! So far with the preoiled filter that I purchased, where you can feel no oil, it's been fine for 6 months since my install.
It takes a day to clean the filter so you have to plan. You use their cleaning fluid which makes it wet. If really dirty can rinse first with a slow stream of water, then use their cleaner. Then it takes hours in the sun to dry (longer if no sun.) Then like using Zaino paint protectents you must use very little oil. It will wick it's way onto the cotton after you put it on in the spots they recommend. I wait hours while the oil spreads and soaks in. The K&N oil is colored red, assume the aFe is as well.
But it's neat that they offer a paper option for those who prefer.

AFE's oil is blue.
The dry filter is a washable synthetic media. It cleans easily in the sink with dish soap and water.

I installed the aFe intake a couple weeks back and used a combination of your instructions and what was provided. Your instructions are awesome and made the install a breeze. So thank you!

With that said, a couple areas you had difficulty with I had no problems. I'm thinking aFe made some changes?

One was the rubber grommets. On my install I literally removed them by hand. No force required.

The other was the T-Bolt Clamp. I removed the nut, spread the clamp around the air duct and throttle body intake and then threaded the nut. No real force required and definitely didn't need to cut off a portion of the receiving end of the clamp. Again, I think aFe must have made some changes (longer rod) since you installed yours, which I think was in early '14?

Thanks for the feedback. Great to see they responded! Updated the PDF and mentioned they fixed the issue. Those Tee-Bolt clamps are expensive and only come in a fixed narrow range of sizes. They must buy enough to have the clout to get what's needed!

I installed my AFE this past weekend and it was a bitch. I had to remove one of the rubber grommets because the stock bolt was not long enough to reach with the grommet in. I tried for an hour to get it threaded and it would just not go. Removed the grommet and finally got it threaded. I'll just have to live with it.

I went with a Halltech all carbon unit. Awesome quality, a little expensive, light and fits great. Noticeable difference, especially when pulling away.

Don't know if this had anything to do with your issue but the rubber grommets install backward from the OEM box! This is one of the 20 pics in my PDF install, see post #3:

I tried forwards backwards upside down and nothing worked. I even had a buddy pushing the airbox into the fender and it was just to short. Took the grommet out and it gave me the clearance to fit. The large washer should be enough to secure it. The other grommets worked and its in there very tight so should be ok

I forgot about it but now that you bring it up I had some trouble as well. Mine was with the bolt closest to the front of the car. I messed with it for awhile and finally got it. At the time I thought it was more of an alignment issue because when I finally got it it threaded right in. Maybe a combination of alignment and bolt length?

See mine was the one closest to the firewall. The one towards the front slipped right in.

I had the issue until I got the rubber/metal grommets right. The confusion is the OEM is the opposite. Their instructions show it properly but they don't say it's backward from the OEM!
