Default Gun safe

Has anyone installed a gun safe in their C7 for a pistol? I'm thinking the flat area behind the passenger seat up against the bump would work but am unsure about drilling through to mount it. Seems to me that would be a logical place and easily reached with my right hand

No. Locking my concealed carry weapon in a safe would defeat the entire purpose to have it.

I agree...but there are times when I have to leave it and I can't lock it in the trunk.

I don't believe in locking my conceal carry firearm in my car at any time! The only reason others may need to is to lock it in their car before they go into their work place.

I get it, but this car is my DD and there are buildings you can't carry in. So what do you do with it? Not a work problem for me, I own my own business, but what about the Post Office, Courthouse, etc. ?

I have read where many C7 owners who want to carry a firearm have been storing them behind the nav screen. Unless you're carrying a larger pistol or semi-automatic, most smaller firearms will fit in the cubby.

I would think if you had to leave a firearm in the C7 temporarily while in a non-carry building, there are plenty of places to store a firearm in the C7.

I personally don't think a gun safe in the car is a great idea. But then again, I don't carry a gun in any of my vehicles.

I am sure you will get plenty of ideas here from other owners that are firearm savvy. This has been widely discussed here on the CF in the past.

It can be a controversial issue at best.

I put my M&P Shield in the cubby space behind the nav screen.

Well, first, I would never carry someplace it's prohibited.

Seriously, there are a number of places to hide it in the car. If someone does break into the car the carry weapon is probably not the worst problem.

My carry weapon does fit behind the Nav screen, which most people have no idea slides down.

Massachusetts has some of the toughest gun laws around, and while my permit allows concealed carry of a loaded weapon, the stipulation is that it must be "under my direct control". Leaving it unsecured in the vehicle or anywhere else for that matter, opens me up to serious liability and legal issues. That's the reason for my initial question. It looks to be the best solution for me, just trying to figure the best way to do it.

I understand. There are differences from state to state. Here in New Mexico (still the real West) our laws state that you can have a loaded firearm in the vehicle without a CCP. You can also walk down the street with an exposed firearm loaded.

If the firearm is truly concealed then the CCP is required.

New Mexico is among states with some of the least restrictive firearms laws in the country. State laws governing the possession and use of firearms include those in New Mexico Statutes Chapter 30, Article 7

New Mexico is a great place to live.

Same here in CO. One of a very long list of reasons I wouldn't move to the northeastern U.S.

OP, if the law is specific to "loaded" guns, empty the chamber and remove the magazine before leaving it in the car. Problem solved.

I just heard on the evening news tonight that the state of Virginia will no longer honor CCPs from other states. They are withdrawing all reciprocity as I understand it. Maryland on the other hand makes it so difficult to get a CCP that almost no one qualifies.

My CO permit is honored in 34 states.

I throw the LCP behind the Nav screen if I need to leave it in the car, otherwise it's on me.

You might get further clarification. In many states, a gun in the glove box is not considered CCW.

I just caught a quick part of the news; Virginia apparently said the potential reciprocating state must meet certain standards; some do, some don't.

When I carry, I carry on my person. I have used the cubby while on long runs but never leave anything in there unattended.

Hi there. I have a MA CC license, and a C7 and what I did was to purchase several gun vault lock boxes that attach with a cable. I run the cable around the seat frame and it tucks perfectly behind the seat with no problems. I also do the same thing for my C6.

I bought mine at tractor supply over the summer when they were about $14 on sale, with free shipping to my local tractor supply (which is in Belchertown for me). Keep your eyes open because these are on sale all the time.

http://www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/pro...0?cm_vc=-10005

Will it stop a thief from stealing my gun? Nope, but it is MA compliant, and that's all that matters to me.

You cannot keep a gun in the glovebox in MA even if the glovebox can be locked. MA has some very strange and convoluted laws.

You know MA actually considers a locked trunk okay for storage. I know, I know most cars including corvettes have trunk release buttons but that's our wicked smaht MA supreme court in action lol.
