Purpose of a Z51 if....

Somewhat better brakes. You also get more expensive tires that wear out faster and don't like cold weather. Since I got a convert., which means it will never be on the track, I couldn't see the value.

Resale and quite frankly, value.
Z51 has $1195 NPP exhaust included, 19 and 20 inch wheels that takes a $3500 mag ride to get. Better roll stability as you're seeing a lot of people spend $300 to upgrade to Z51 sways. The Ediff helps traction even if you're not tracking. $700 for a LPO Z51 spoiler as well.
The cost factor becomes pretty negligible once you add those $5000+ in options to equal the equipment that is standard on the Z51. The brakes look cooler too.
I track the day lights out of mine and the car is quite capable. Nothing like piece of mind if you decide to do some lapping one day.

The brakes are better but the Z51 has additional cooling for the brakes and other components. Nobody will ever convince me that keeping high temp components of a vehicle cooler isn't of value.

IMO.....
good things:
better looking wheels (but not the case for 16)
sway bars
bigger wheels
bad things:
harder ride (without MRC)
dirty brakes
blade spoiler
cryptic oil check procedure
wet sump overflow
ediff complexity
$20 more oil for a oil change
we are all different, I wanted no part of it, and had no constraints...but if you own a z51, what is it that you cannot understand why someone would NOT want it?...Seems many z51 guys go brain dead after getting it...LOL.......this has been going on since the car hit the streets...

Avoiding future buyer remorse!
I don't track, but given the above philosophy, I wanted anything that would allow the car to go faster or handle better. I may never push the car to its absolute limits, but I have a hell of a good time pushing it to my limits!

If you are a waxer you will never notice the difference.

It was not worth the extra $25,000 to me.
I also did not want the extra complexity of aux. Coolers or the unproven electronic differential.

With the options that I mentioned previously, the costs come out nearly identical if not favoring the Z51. If you just add the NPP to a base car and no spoiler, it's about a $4000 difference. I think the Z51 resale will hold up better though.

My 2016 non Z51 looks like one and has Magnetic Ride. Why spend the extra on stuff I won't use if I don't track it? I have the rims, the spoiler, the shocks. The stuff that really matters when I'm flying on the highway.
That's also the beauty of having choices. If you want Z51 you can get it...if you don't you don't have to.
