Really why would you need these Running Boards that were done away with in the 1940's? they collect dust, water and it''s more difficult to get out of your car without scratching them up. Plus, it takes away from the true race lines/ design of he car. More Bling for more money ? So why should I buy them ? I think they are another fade item.

I think the 37 Cord was one of the first to engineer the running board behind the door. (Their cars also had hidden headlights) I don't like the skirts either. I will not ever have a set.
I'm on the fence if I like them. I know I do not like or want a front "splitter" hanging off the front bumper, but I'm considering one of the lower key G3Carbon "Street Skirts" for the rockers because I believe they will keep any stone chips off the area behind the door that's already beat up on my car in 1500 miles. The more I look at the skirts, the more I like them, on my black car I think they'll make the car look lower and have a very OEM appearance. if you don't like them, don't get them... I personally hate chrome wheels on a modern sports car but I don't mind if others like them or put them on their cars.
BTW, many cars had running boards that extended behind the doors long before the 1937 Cord.

They are a must on the Z06 because they prevent rock chips on the rear quarter panel.
I put them on after 6k miles now after 2k more miles no more road rash.
They also provide aero downforce. They also tie in all the carbon flash on the Z.

We do a lot of Texas back road cruises and driving on them poses a high potential for rock chips along the body. Side skirts help prevent that. I even added painted splash guards to help prevent water on the body. I think the side skirts and splash guards actually make the Laguna Blue look better. Just my opinion but I like them. Also, I just posted a thread about a simple $8 tool I made to help clean the dust that gathers between the skirt and car body.
And, mine have been on about a year and not a scratch on them and not any problem getting in or out of the car.

I was thinking of getting my top painted as well looks great someone said to check out vynly wrap first did you do that ?
, if you don't like the side skirts, you shouldn't buy them...for what ever the reasoning.....BUT if you like the looks and/or prefer keeping rock damage down to a minimum on the sides of your car while traveling this great nations highways and back roads.....they ain't a bad investment.

Like the look of body colored, did they come painted or did you have them painted.
I didn't like them at first, but knew I had to have them to protect the side of the car from rocks thrown up by the front tires. I went the "minimalist" route with the least obvious side skit and I think they improve the look of the car. For the white car they add a "border" to the bottom of the body. You can barely see it this picture but the car also has the poverty front splitter painted flat black and that also frames the front of the car.

Well, my CF sideskirts have saved my rocker panels and lower rear fender area from chips a BUNCH of times. I have heard stuff hitting the underside of the skirt and bouncing under the car..instead of chipping my rockers..soo many times on my daily driver. I would definitely recommend them if you drive your car a lot. Just be careful taking deep turns around corners.

I'm not a blue Corvette kinda guy, but your comment about the color matched side skirts and splash guards making your car look better is right on the mark! They really make the car stand out, more flowing in my eye.

Running boards are for stepping. Side skirts are for protection. As said, these tires are wide and kick up lots of debris. I like the look, but I also like no road rash even more.

I guess you better tell the C7.R teams that side skirts "take away from the true race lines."
Since they perform a definite aero function, you might also need to tell them how they can make up for the lost down force.

It took only a few weeks after I put on the GM "splash guards" to understand the front ones would do nothing to stop pebbles and other debris from marking the GM plastic! That heavy plastic also looks bad. Look at where GM put it and you'll see why those splash guards can't be very effective and why you need something to stop rocker panel damage! This is especially an issue right behind the door where GM extended the heavy plastic protection up fairly high.
I installed side skirts and they stopped all debris and I was able to remove the marked up and discolored GM plastic. My C7 is 28 months old and the rocker panels look new!
In this case form follows function!
Mine are carbon fiber that match my visible OEM carbon fiber roof, I think they also look good. To Each His Own! Perhaps you like dinged-up rocker panels or marked discolored plastic better! PS: Sounds like you have no idea why they are on the Z06 and most race cars! Hint, it's not "bling!"

Well, it's true that side skirts collect dust and you do have to be more careful getting into and out of a car that is difficult to "navigate" in that fashion in the first place, but I think they just really look "cool", but hey, that's just my opinion...
