Default USB drive behind nav screen not reading

Well I seem to be having bad luck with the media inputs in this car and it's driving me nuts.

Pdr slot in glove bocks reads when it wants to, and now I loaded up a new 3.0 32gb flash drive and plugged into the slot behind the nav screen and nothing. Tried the 2 slots in the center console also and no dice.

Am I wrong here or should I be able to just plug in the flash drive , change the media input and play the music on the drive?

It cycles only though my Bluetooth , radio , xm and aux with nothing but feedback.

My guess is your formatting is a little off.....sometimes the USB drive can get a little cranky about reading your files. The first question would be are you trying to transfer files from ITunes? I have found that I sometimes get into trouble when I try to "Copy & Past" several tracks at once. What has worked the best for me (using ITunes) is to drag and drop into a folder labeled the same as your ITunes folder.

If your not using ITunes, then perhaps its just the way your files are set up (3 step system); start with a folder labeled type of songs (EZ Listening, C&W, Oldies etc.), then make a files for each your albums, and finally insert all your tracks for that album. I'm not going to argue that there is an easier way, I can just confirm that this works for me using SD cards and USB jump drives....good luck

Make sure the USB drive is formatted to Fat32.

Take it out, rub your fingers over it ( to remove static) and re-insert. I've done it many times. Good luck.

There is something to the "folder" thing. My first attempt, just loaded the stick with song files. It would only play the first song over and over.

Based on something I read here, created "folders" by artist and then dropped the songs in the folders. Works great. Actually works better than my iPod which the Corvette will often not recognize.

Also, as mentioned, the correct format is essential.

Good luck!

Everything that's already been posted is a possibility. There's also another one which happened to be the case with my '15. I was having the same problem - I had a flash drive that was working perfectly for the first couple of weeks that I owned the car but then the car stopped being able to detect the drive. The cause was a bad HMI (human - machine interface). My service department replaced the HMI under warranty and all has been good ever since. It's now been around 15 months without a problem. BTW, the same drive that the car didn't recognize before it now recognizes perfectly.

The drive is formatted for FAT32 already
i do have only folders in there , per artist and there songs in each folder.
I will try the rubbing the static method later tonight when I get home

I hope I'm not in need of a new HMI .goig to the dealer is the last thing I want to do!

I almost miss the simplicity of my C5 and I love gadgets/electronics.

Do you have another drive you can try to see if the USB ports are working? Not working in all three makes me think it's the drive not your car, even if it works in your PC.

Well the static trick helped the port recognize the flash drive, but no files showing up. I guess I need to screw with the file structure now.

Going to try some of these things to see if it will work on my '15 Impala as I'm having the same problem with it.
