Why did you buy a Corvette with the Z51 option over a Z06?

There was no Z06 in 2014. That's my reason
Now I can't see getting rid of what I have since I special ordered it and have modified it exactly how I want it. Great car, really enjoying it! Perfect car for double-duty weekend toy and roadtrip long hauler.

Pretty simple:
- C7 Z06 did not exist when I bought mine
- I really wanted MSRC, so I had to get a Z51 (was not available without Z51)

Wow, tough question. Apples and Oranges. Z06 is a beast. Z51 is a great every day car. I sometimes think the Z06 aero is just a little too much. R & T stated very clearly they thought the Z51 was a better choice for the road. OK, here is my choice: Z51

I wanted a daily driver and a highway cruiser.
Look, I don't wanna sound preachy, but I HATE needlessly sending my money to oil producing nations. It just seems like the Z06 has tons of power I wouldn't be using, consuming more fuel than I'm comfortable with. Too many Americans die waging geopolitics with OPEC.
So ended up with a loaded z51 m7 with every option possible for a 2LT: heated seats, auto climate control, etc. the kind of stuff that's nice in a daily driver, that's nice for long drives.
I've scored over 30mpg on a few trips, but have 460 horses at my disposal. I've raced the car with ventilated seats cooling my sweaty taint, I've kicked back in ECO mode blasting a terrific sounding stereo.
And I saved money.

- The Z06 was way more expensive than what I could comfortably afford.
- The Z51 that I ended up ordering was also more than I could afford but I ordered it anyway.
- I wanted mag ride which for 2015 was not available on a non-Z51 Stingray.
- If the car was going to have air intakes on the rear fender tops, I wanted them to both be functional.
- The 2005 that I owned when ordering my 2015 was a Z51 and I loved it.
- I had a friend who ordered his 2015 at the same time I did; he ordered a Z51 so I had to as well.

Simple. $$$. If both cost the same there wouldn't be any Z51's.

We have had a C6 Z51, a C6 Z06, a C5 Z51, and a C5 Z06. Being fully retired now we decided the Z51 would better suit our traveling needs. We do a bunch of Texas back roads driving so the Z51 is plenty for enjoying them.

The question for me is why did I buy a Z-51 over a base C7. Based on the budget I set with my wife, a Z06 was never in the picture. Of course I'd like to buy that bad boy, but I'm happy just to own a C7. Buying a 2LT, Z51 was a bonus.

Agreed. I was set to order a bare bones 2016 1LT with 2 options, Perf. exhaust and black wheels. I found a 2014 Z51 with 1500 miles and a ton of cool other options I "wished" i could afford to order on my '16, so rather than wait for my stripped '16 1LT to get here I drove home a '14 Z51 with 2LT and a bunch of other options. I wasn't even in the running for a C7 Z06... new, used or otherwise.

I track my '15 Z51 at road course HPDE events. I test drove a Z06 at my home track during several of the Extreme Experience visits (along with Ferrari, Lambo and McLaren) and decided that the Z06 was too much car for my purposes. The Z51 is ideal, or at least it will be when I get the A8 transmission heat problem solved.

My loaded Z51 3LT Vert, with competition seats, sueded microfiber inserts, M7, painted calipers, MSRC, and a bunch of other options came in at base Z06 numbers. I wanted the extra features and upgrades of the 3LT, with great handling capabilities and the option of tracking if I desired. My primary use is a weekend cruiser, and frankly, 460 HP is plenty for me.

Even with 3LT and a few other goodies, cost w/discount on my Z51 was still much lower than a 1LZ Z06, which would have had the better performance, but lacked some of the "comfy" things I wanted. Little too far out of my budget.
Plus, my buddy owns a Z06 C7.R and a ZR-1. I can borrow either when I have the need for speed. Best of both worlds!
