I know it's been asked before, but does the 2017 torque converter have a different part number so we know it's been fixed?

Based on what I'm hearing here and elsewhere, do we have any assurance it's fixed even then?

The torque converter changes were made in Nov of 2015 I believe, and yes there should of been a part # change...

Just got my car back today from the torque converter change. Only 40 miles so far but all is good. I did have to wait for about 3 weeks for the converter to come in, but I kept the car and dove it mostly in manual mode during that time. It took the dealer 2 days to swap it out...

The delay should NOT happen. Before my TC replacement, I had the same problem. After the new TC was installed, no delay. Six K miles later and the transmission is flawless.

My new revised torque converter part # 24279495 F-(S) was installed February 16 and the transmission has been flawless.

Couple questions:

Is this happening to only Z51 A8s ?

Are the vast majority of A8s affected, or a small percentage?

Someone asked this, but how involved is this repair. Is it an 'easy' swap? or does the whole trans need to come out

I just purchased a 2016 A8 z51 with 2600 miles on it, and now im worried as hell

check the production date.
It is on the drivers door a silver/gray label.
I think anything after Nov. 2015 has the new converter

When was your car built? If it was after Oct 27, 2015 and you don't have any issues now you will be fine. Here is the TSB# with date range TSB 16-NA-014

Even if it was built prior to that date, there are plenty of A8 Vettes out there that are not having problems according to posts here by their owners.

Mine says July 15

I do not have all the symptoms some have experienced. When parked, it shifts into gears fine, some have seen slowness shifting to reverse. I do not have that problem, but, when driving, it does shift really 'weird' at times, clunky, sharp sometimes jerky, and seems to slip on low gear shifts, more so when cold, my c5 and c6 did that too, but this is more pronounced, and jerks when engaging.

My a6 in the c6 seemed much smoother. The Carfax had a note on there that the computer was recently flashed from dealer, then the guy sold it 100 miles later.

* Happening to all .
*It has been reported the revised TC's started on the production line about November 2015. I watch this thread to see if anyone with a post Nov 2015 car has had to have a TC or transmission replacement.I do think I have seen some reports of post Nov 2015 build dates where there have been TC replacements.

* My Aug 2014 built 2015 C7 car started the A8 problems at about 2000 miles and by 17000 miles,Feb 2016, I gave in and let them pull the tranny for a TC replacement. At just over 20,000 miles, spring 2016, A8 issues started again and the this time the transmission was replaced. Now at aprox 25000 miles all is well.

* It has been suggested by Tadge and on this forum that if you are going to have a problem it will show up early. WRONG -WRONG.
In Feb 2016 I drove my buddies 2015 C7 ( oct 2014 build date) to see if his car had the same A8 issues as mine did. At that time I reported on this forum he had about 24000 miles on his car and it had no bad A8 symptoms.Recently, his car started having very hard shift issue going from P to D or from P to R. Also , he had vibration that felt like he was driving on washboard or over rumble strips.THIS FAILURE HAPPENED AT THE 30,000 MILE MARK AND TWO WEEKS AGO HAD HIS TC REPLACED.

What I find very troublesome with this is that if mine takes 30,000 miles before it fails again I will be long past the powertrain warranty.
Also in the North where cars are off the road in storage for several winter months there may be situations arise where if a 2015 has a TC failure at a high mileage, like 30,000 miles, mile mark it will long be out of Warranty.

Bottom line ...GM knows that ...and does not give a .... very easy to see what is going on ...

Wow I cant believe so many problems. I have 2800 miles on my 2016 and in the Am or after I work all day when I start it I hear a rather load howl inside the vehicle. It goes away gradually after in warms up and shifts fine. But that Howl is terrible, I haven't taken it to the dealer yet.

Guys, you are seriously drinking the GM Kool-Aid if you think the A8 TC issues were resolved with a magical Nov 2015 revision.

My March 2016 build Z06 had the "shuddering" (aka "Chuggle") issue from day one. I had the whole transmission (with TC) replaced in July 2016.

Any revisions to the TC and/or root cause of the issues has remained a closely guarded GM secret (I could not even get any information as to whether my replacement A8 had a different TC part number Vs the factory build).

I have no reason to believe GM has actually identified root cause and expect that the issues with the A8 will continue.

Automotive News indicated that as of November 1st there were over 10,000 sitting on dealers lots and how many of those have defective Torque Converters. Buying a new or used C7 is a real gamble today, but how many buyers are aware of this problem. Some luck out and get a good one.

The A8 has been in the C7 since the 2015 model was first produced in August of 2014. By March of 2016 that represents 19 months of C7 A8's needing replacement TC'S and or Transmissions.I had hoped the reason my 2015 A8 failed was because of a bad supplier that might have been identified in the first six months or so of the A8's introduction.Given that these A8 issues continue to show up into or beyond the 19 month I think the only conclusion is that it is not a supplier with a quality control issue but perhaps the failures are a result of a bad design. That being said, I am very concerned that the two A8 tear outs I have had on my 2015 will have solved nothing and eventually I will probably need a third A8 tear out.

Initially,as I have previously posted ,until two weeks ago I was optimistic that if you got past the 10,000 mile mark with an A8 you were home free. Then, my friend with an Oct 2014 built C7 ,A8, had his TC give trouble and needed to be replaced at the 30,000 mile mark. As much as I love the car I am convinced that we are all dealing with a design issue, not a supplier issue

I can only speak for my dealer. When my car started having TC problems I took it to them and I was told I needed a new torque converter because of a bad o-ring. A new TC was installed and my transmission has been flawless since and I have put an additional 12K miles on the new TC. Some of the TC problems not being solved with a new TC could be transmission problems and not the TC.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

First tear out on my car was for the TC replacement. Things improved and then started going south again.

Second tear out was for Transmission replacement...so far so good.

That is if you can get a GM to replace it. Some have had luck others not. From what I remember reading in the ask Tadge section it was said by him the new design and part number transmissions started on the assembly line sometime in December of 2015. All others before are suspect. It also appears another revision might have been made very late in 2016 production possibly May 2016.
