Just saw a report here in the DC metro area of a fatal single car wreck Sunday when temps were in the teens or low 20s. The car was a Dodge Viper and went off on a dry 2-lane road in broad daylight. The driver was only 21 which might have been a factor. His girlfriend was killed in the crash but the driver had non-life-threatening injuries. Car was a total loss.
If the car was shod with P Zeros (Viper OEMs), that apparently aren't recommened for use below 45 degrees F, there's a good chance that surprisingly low traction was a contributing factor. So I am glad this forum spreads the word of potential similar issues with our PSS ZPs. We all get the itch to get on the road but be careful out there.
I still think one of the options on the 2017 will be year round tires for all models. That said, youth and high powered cars have been a lethal combination for decades. I wish there was more that could be done to help all folks new to high powered cars understand how fast you can get into serious trouble with one.
Always a shame to hear sad news such as this. Prayers to her family.
P Zeros suck, have them on my Regal GS and can't wait to get rid of them. Very poor traction when it gets below 60.
This is the first vette (Z51 vert) I've ever owned that I haven't driven in the winter while temps were below 30. Kerbeck advised be very cautious between 21 and 40+ degrees. Don't drive below 20. One day after just starting the car in the 30's I fishtailed taking a turn and learned first hand why the advisement.

Agree! Car is garaged but sat outside in 28 degrees during two hour meeting. First slightly spirited turn and tires briefly broke loose. Ever since I check tire temp gauge if temps low.
One can only wonder what the car-handling experience level is/was of the 21 year old driver. Regardless, the passenger paid the ultimate price. Very sad and a warning to all drivers esp. today with some cars having very narrowly-defined driving conditions for their tires.
