question, but first a bit of background..........i've owned 3 new vets, 76 coupe , 78 silver ann. , 82 cross ram injection . i am now 69 years old and have a c5 coupe mn6. this is my 11th corvette, bought the first, a 59 vert, when i was 19 years of age. corvettes are in my dna. but here is my question..........i know the c7 has cylinder deactivation , what is the recommended weight oil, what brand oil, and what is the longest interval between oil changes? my reason for asking , recently purchased a chrysler 300c hemi which comes with a recommendation of 8000 miles or 6 months between oil change. i'm curious to what gm calls for. of course i'll follow the owners manual , yea, i'm a gearhead. thanks everyone and have a blessed day...........

Many threads/posts on the issue. Unlike your early Vettes etc, GM has developed a system that monitors engine revolutions as a measure of when to change oil. It adds other parameters such as if after you start the car and the oil not does get hot enough to burn off the blowby that comes when the engine is cold and clearances are wide, it integrates that info and requires the change sooner. There are factors like ambient temperature considered. In addition my '88, '93 and '08 Vettes just stated in the Owner's Manual, change after 1 year if the oil life monitor but did not indicate a change was required, time is now integrated into the C7 algorithm. So at the end of a year it will indicate to change the oil regardless of how little you may have driven!
All great logic, I change the oil each year in the 8.2 liter engine in my Street Rod that mostly just goes to Shows. Moisture condenses in that crackcase with changes in temp etc.
BOTTOM LINE, use the oil life indicator that comes with the Vette!
I'm 73 and learn new tricks!
Download the Owner's Manual for oil type and weight and how to read oil change info.
I put 4-5000 miles on my car a year. I change once a year. I will be having mine done April first. I did however have the oil changed at the first 1000 miles.
I've been doing mine every 6 months just to not lose any of my 4 free oil changes. Once that is done, I'll follow the oil life monitor which means I'll likely change it about once per year.
