Convertibles serve one demographic, and on demographic only....period...at least in the Corvette's case.
Put another way, if I were forced to own a Corvette convertible, I'd have foam on it within a week and would be creating a custom hardtop and yanking out the guts of the vert top.
Put yet another way...I asked my gf why more Corvette convertibles don't sell and she said "because douchebags drive convertibles"....
Hey...don't shoot the messenger...tell her, not me!

Why I love Corvette convertibles!
Personally, I think the coupe only offers two advantages for a street car (and I don't track mine):
More luggage space (not what I buy a sports car for), and better lines with the roof on vs. the 'vert with top up.
But with the roof off, I think the coupe looks unfinished, incomplete, with lines that don't flow. And with the top down, the 'vert looks every bit as stunning as the coupe.
With the top up, the 'vert is quieter, and every bit as warm (or cool), water tight and comfortable as the coupe. With the top down, it's an experience that can't be matched by a targa (except maybe the old Porsche Targa with the zip out rear window). And it can be switched between close and open in 20 seconds, without even stopping the car, much less getting out. As for safety, the windshield frame is the roll bar on the C7 'vert. Somewhere there's a picture of a C7 with a pickup truck sitting ON TOP OF THE CAR and the windshield pillars didn't bend at all.
To each his own, though.

I can say without a doubt the coupe looks better to me.
However everyone has their own opinion, but some don't have the common sense to express their opinion properly and wow does that flaw show in this thread.

The breakdown of C2 production was:
Coupe = 39%
Convertible = 61%

Coupe = 39%
Convertible = 61%

1) C2 Coupes originally cost more than verts before options
2) C2 Coupe hatch did not open
3) C2 Coupe did not have a targa top
But they sure were nice! However my '65 C2 was a vert.

The 1976 Corvette wasn't offered in a convertible, so it wasn't even available. And as far as a 1976 Corvette "L88??" I seriously doubt that was available for the 1976 model year either. Doesn't sound right to me......
If Corvette had the L88 427 c.i. In 1976 - I'd of bought one......

It's 62 F and sunny outside right now, and I just came back from a twisty road drive with the top down, exhaust fuse "out", and the music of the pipes playing from behind! Nothing beats a convertible in weather like this.

First off, the guy with the comment including "douchebag", should not be allowed to comment on this forum. Because you don't like something isn't reason for those sorts of comments about those who do. I also would say that to call someone else a douchebag, one most likely is very aware of the attributes of one, if you know what I mean.
Now, I personally will not buy a coupe. I have had convertible 'Vettes forever and I just love them. And I live in Oregon! It really all depends on personal preference. I now have a '15 TR Stingray and it's just an awesome car. Previously had an '11 TR Grand Sport, both convertibles. Granted, you have to have weather cooperation for maximum enjoyment, but man when that you power that top down, it just doesn't get any better. As far as my wife's hair getting mussed up........she wears her Stingray hat!
Why can't we all just voice our opinions and keep the personal snipes out of it. We drive the most beautiful cars on the road, and top or no top, we're the luckiest people around!!!

I've never been a fan of the convertible and don't like the looks with the top up. With that being said I think the C7 is one of the best looking convertibles with the top down. Add to the fact that they are more expensive, prone to leaks, wind noise, safety concerns in rollovers. They just aren't the car for me. I can always take the top off my coupe if I need some sun and air.

Man so much wrong information. If you like the coupe better fine but to make statements like prone to leaks, noisy, etc. just shows a lack of knowledge regarding the C7 Convertible.
You should take a ride in your Coupe with the top off and then a Convertible with the top down. Fact is the convertible is quieter.
