I know this is not everyone's cup of tea so don't bother posting if you don't like the mod. I'm posting this at the request of several members here considering using the same method that was used on mine and as a follow up to another thread about blackout inserts or any alternatives to them.
I had Richard at Corvette Enhancements do his magic on a set of rear side markers, rear reflectors and tail lights (he did the black cherry tint job on my C5 years ago). I asked him to go easy on the darkness this time since these are going on a California car and the tails are recessed in the rear fascia making them appear darker. I also asked him to go pretty light on the turn signal and reverse lenses.
My buddy and fellow forum member Daryll (2FAS4UU) came over today to help me pull the rear fascia off and install these. Thanks, Daryll - always a true friend and enthusiast.
For the record, I'm delighted with the job Richard did on these lights - they were exactly what I was hoping for. Here are the pics.
Those look really good! Thanks for taking the time to post. Even in daylight with the lights on, the loss through them seems to be negligible. The side markers look great too!
No, Richard tints the outside of the lens. He would need to cut them open to tint from the inside.
Thanks. I wonder if the tint coat would be different for the clear Z06 lights. I like the darker red look you went with vs. a complete blacked out look.
I'm really digging those the more I look at them. I have the GS lenses, and I like those, but this is almost the same look but much cleaner. I like the cherry red tint, I also have to believe that will help keep you from getting pulled over vs a straight black tint. I'm kinda curious to see if Patches gets pulled over this week, plus I just sprang for a Z grille so I need to get some billing done to refill the bling fund.
I think Patches said he has a red core now, so I'm not sure how he'd do the Z lights.
Great mod. That isn't the easiest looking "simple mod" to do. I was thinking about swapping the clear lenses for reds but I'm not so sure about ripping the whole rear-end off.
I know it looks intimidating but it's not. Take your time and definitely have a friend help you remove/re-install to keep it simple. We actually had fun doing it. Sure, we're both pro-modders but, I'm positive you can do it if you're even considering it, meaning you have at least moderate mech skills.
Believe me, it's worth it once you're done. It looks much better at night as well. I just got home from my commute home and looked at them when I got home in the dark again and they are still bright but a cooler, deeper red. They are definitely very easy to see so no safety concerns at all.
Wow nice! I had a set of Black Cherry Taillights on my C5 by Richard. If he is doing the C7 lights, I know they will be awesome quality and craftsmanship. Thanks for the info!
Where is the " I'm not going to mod this one " LOL
just teasing you....always tastefully done , and now that she is no longer a virgin. Let the Mods begin.

I consider the stuff I've done to the C7 as borderline "mods". Mostly waxer-type stuff that is easily reversible and is visual in nature. Breaking into the drive train is where I draw that line or ripping the stock sound system completely out and putting all new in or replacing body panels and suspension systems. Now, my C5 - that's modding.
