I noticed when I was dating a lot of girls, some of them would ask me why I drove such an impractical car. Right away I concluded that these girls weren't "The One". When I met my future wife and things started getting serious, I tested her. I had an 81 4speed at the time. I told her that I was thinking of getting rid of the Vette and buying a Honda or something similar because it got better gas mileage etc....she looked me straight in the eye and said, "if you buy a Honda, don't pick me up in that car, use it for work!" That's why I married her!
My wife promised me a 2014 when they were announced but life intervened and she still apologizes that I had to wait for a 2016. She does love LBR, though. BTW, she has no complaints about the passenger seat. She's still recovering from surgery so she hasn't asked to drive it yet but I taught her to drive a manual transmission almost 50 years ago and she still married me so I'm not worried. Also, she autocrossed for eight years.
I bought my car the first week of January and to this day my wife has still not even seen the inside of the car, let alone gone for a ride. I really think she resents the fact that I bought an M7 ( she dosent know how to drive a Manual)instead of an automatic, and she really wanted me to get the Artic White and not Velocity Yellow. As selfish as this may sound, I did consider all these things when I purchased this car, but at the end of the day it was my dream car and I didn't want to settle for something I would be unhappy with. I really think that when I eventually get her out for a ride she will have a different outlook. I did also promise her that I would teach her how to drive stick. For now it's my two boys who fight over who's turn it is to go for a ride to run an errand.
It may be that you erroneously selected the High Maintenance option. You need to clear your selections and instead select the Low Maintenance option.
My wife is Low Maintenance, isn't interested in jewelry or makeup, usually wears black levis and polarfleece tops, and this morning had the driveway cleared of snow before I woke up. She also pays half the bills out of her own salary and generally is a pleasure to be around. (At the recent Detroit Auto Show she looked better than almost all the models, and she is 60.)
The only difficulty posed by this option is that any sons will have a hard time finding wives, since they will have become used to straightforward, honest women. One of my sons already has dumped two high maintenance girlfriends who never really understood what hit them. Of the most recent one, he said simply, "Dad, she wasn't kind."
If my wife complains about any of my sports cars, I simply remind her that I used my own money to buy them, and she has no skin in the ownership of the car.
That usually would put anyone in their place. There is no complaining in our household when one spends their own funds for whatever they want.
My wife has her own money, I have mine. It just works the best that way. There is never any complaining of who buys what. I could care less what she spends her money on, and she feels the same with me.
Fortunately my Wife loves the Vette. As a matter of fact when I had my C6 she came home one day and told me she saw a beautiful white C7. She told me to check one out and the next day after a test drive our 2015 was on order.
A year later and she and I are still enjoying it 100%.
And she loves to drive it! On trips she drives while I listen to whatever music I like on my Beats noise-cancelling headphones! She's too busy driving to talk much at all and I can't hear her anyway. Wahoo! Great way to travel and we both feel it rides great, and for both of us, the seats are comfy!
Bragging here that my wife likes the Corvette. I was very worried like the OP the two would not get along. Just this last weekend she said how much she likes it still.
We bought it out of state and made a vacation of driving it home. Was worried she would not like driving it, the ride was to stiff or the power would be an issue. But to quote her she calls the car effortless to drive and she is careful on how much throttle she uses.
Had an interesting ride yesterday. Decided to take a drive up in the mountains with my better half. It was a beautiful day with the beginning of spring. My wife started to complain about the pass seat. Felt it was uncomfortable. Told her to use the adjustments on the side. Then said it was like riding in a coffin. She couldn't see the top of the trees. I told her to look ahead and look at the tops before we are on top of them.
I think this is her way of telling me she doesn't like the car. I knew I might be in trouble when she wanted an orange car and I brought home a black car.
Anyway, anybody have the need for an uncooperative passenger as I will be driving solo from now on. Just venting..Thanks..Mike
My wife thinks the vette seats are the best of any cars we have owned !!! She doesn't like traveling on very long trips !!! So I have made two long trips ---1) 3200 miles in 1 week and 2) 4200 miles in 10 days !!! So I can't complain about the seats because the seats and the headlights are the 2 best things about my 14 Z-51 !!! I'm 5ft 9in and 170 lbs so maybe it depends on your body type !!! Wayne
My wife enjoys taking a ride in the Corvette. I just make sure she's not tired or hungry else she'll get a little kvetchy. Oh, I'm not allowed to punch the gas, she freaks out.
