Aww, my first post...
So I got that going for me. Which is nice.
Details:
2lt, Z51, M7, mag ride.
Black, black badges, black wheels, red calipers.
Black interior, comp seats with suede, CF dash.
Right after it arrives at my courtesy dealer (I guess by the end of March?!), I plan on taking the car to a detailer to apply a coating (probably cquartz finest). I’ll then tint the windows, maybe add side skirts, and lower on the stock bolts. Can’t wait.
I’ve been driving the same car for 15 years, so this is going to be a welcome change. As you might imagine, I’ve been thinking about getting a new car for a long time, but I knew it was going to have to be an interesting car to make it worthwhile. I would rather keep my current car than spend $30k on something boring. I concluded that I wanted a sports car with a V8, rear-wheel drive, and a manual transmission. Narrows down the field pretty fast. Maybe my next car will be electric and/or all-wheel drive, but not this one.
Zero to 60 in under 4 secs, and looks and sounds good doing it. Great handling. Adjustable suspension, steering, and exhaust. Active rev match. And it gets 30 mpg on road trips, with a decent amount of storage space. Seriously? Sign me up. The only real question was whether to spend the extra cash on a Z06 1lz. It was a difficult decision, but I think the Z51 is the right car for me right now.
Though I’ve never owned a really fast car, I’m not completely green. I spent my teen years riding street bikes. (Anybody remember Orange County International Raceway, aka OCIR? My older brother and I used to drag race our bikes there around 1980.) I’ve even been to Spring Mountain’s 2-day corvette driving school – but that was in 2002, before the current owners took over, and before it was the resort it is now. I will be going back as soon as I can sign up for the corvette owners’ school. (Quick aside: The 2-day course in 2002 was a gift to me from Chris Draayer and his son. Some of you are into motorcycles and might have known Chris, who raced for Harley in the ‘60s and was well known in the motorcycle racing community.)
I expect to drive the car a lot. It will be my daily driver and road trip car. Really looking forward to it.
