Hey guys, quick question. As far as oil change intervals, do you guys go strictly by the 3,000 mile rotation or go by what your oil life indicator says in the information center? I'm at 3,500 miles now (got the change at 500 miles for the Z51). The car says about 50% oil life left...just curious.
I change mine at 5k, for peace of mind. Probably also not necessary, but even though synthetic oil is fairly expensive, I still feel like it is cheap insurance to change it before it starts losing effectiveness. Plus, I drive the car "as designed"

Don't pay any attention to the OLM. Every 6 months at the most for me. That works out to about 5,000 miles for my wife's BMW and my truck and about 1,500 for the C7.

Thanks for any/all replies.
That 3,000 went out with the arrival of good synthetic oil... The only benefit doing it that soon is profit for the oil company or the places that changes the oil if you do not do it your self!
.
As I only drive Vette from April to end of Oct due to weather I get it changed just before it goes into garage to hibernate. I normally only have under 7,000 miles and I like fresh oil in for the sleep period.
This post is not referring to the change demanded by GM at 500 miles due to the break in oil. DO THAT ONE and then use the monitor or once a year!
Once a year or when the monitor reaches 15% give or take.
Unlike my prior Vetts that said to change at a minimum once per year the C7 now includes time. So if you put few miles on the car it will say to change after 12 months!
This. Anyone saying ignore the OLM and go strictly by time or miles doesn't have a clue how the OLM works.
I assume your post was directed at me. Your assumption is erroneous. I fully understand how the OLM works. I choose to ignore it. Why don't you take care of your vehicles as you see fit and I will do the same for mine.
