Default Throttle Body service needed?

I'm at the dealer getting my oil changed. The car has about 14000 miles. The service advisor tells me that it is recommended that between 15k and 20k I get the throttle body serviced, which means they clean it and reset the fuel trim. Cost is about $130. I have never heard of this. Any thoughts on whether it should be done next oil change? Thanks!

What does your manual suggest?

Haven't looked at it, as I said I'm waiting to get my oil changed and the manual is in the car.

This is not part of the routine maintenance. This is just a "money maker" for the dealer. If you're not experiencing any issues, I'd pass; my personal opinion.

Nothing but added dealer profit. Stick to the maintenance recommended in the manual

Also, if you want to clean the throttle body, it's actually a pretty simple DIY job. A can of throttle body cleaner is quite a bit less than $130 last time I checked.

There is nothing in the 2014 Owner's OR Service Manual about requiring cleaning either! On page 9-357 of the many thousand pages of Service Manual there is a procedure outlined IF it is necessary. It says to "inspect for deposits."
Then it has many things that should NOT be done since the throttle position sensor, idle air control valve and sealed throttle shaft bearings, "can be damaged!"
It says, "cleaners will damage some of the parts that contain seals and O-rings."
"Solvents can wash away the greases used on non-serviceable throttle shaft bearings."
"Never use a wire brush or scraper...."
"Do not use a cleaner that contains..."

It says to use a clean shop towel and an approved GM engine cleaner.

Last thing I would want is come mechanic spraying the throttle body and screwing it up! At 14,000 miles can't believe it is needed. With a quality air cleaner there is noting but clean air going thru it!
Hmm, check the oil level after the service to be sure it's not overfilled!

There is nothing to clean, these aren't like the throttle bodies of old.

Ask them will it clean the deposits on the intake valves due to the DI issue ? If they look at you funny, they don't have a clue... but if they can prove to you that it cleans up those deposits, then sure... the hard part is proving it... maybe with a snaky camera.... pulling of the intake manifold is the only other way.

Thanks everyone for the replies, I suspected this was not a recommended service. I appreciate the confirmation. The car runs great and i agree with 14000 miles sounds like snake oil treatment!
