Cabin Air Filter
With 8k on the car I just did the second free oil change. Checked the c a f and it was already nasty. Dealer wanted way too much for the charcoal impregnated one so I turned to the bay. Found 2 CF1131C ACDelco filters for $27 shipped free. Ordered Sunday, shipped Monday, came yesterday. 4 days from NY to TX Can't ask for better !

Engine compartment, right side firewall. The fuse box with the handles sits in front and below it. Just pop the three little metal clips upwards gently. Pull trap door outwards and up away from the fire wall. Old filter just slides out. The ACDelco replacement being made of thicker and better material will take some doing to get it in but it will go. I kind of had to wiggle mine right/left at the start. Then it went in the rest of the way. Just make sure it is seated behind the small lip at the front of the compartment. Make sure you install the door with the molded tabs on the back side facing down. Snap the 3 clips back in place and you are set to go.
Also cheap on Amazon. Where is the cabin air filter and how hard was it to change. Damned oak pollen is covering everything now.
Paid <$20 Amazon Prime, free shipping, for better Fram filter that has carbon filter material. I have a dry sump so a little more difficult to access, but not hard.
This is what I did:
Replaced my passenger air filter with a Fram "FreshBreese" that contains backing soda and carbon. The removed OEM was simple paper.
Pic below is from 2014 Service Manual but here are a few additional hints I found useful for my Z51. Access was easiest by unclipping the two hard plastic line clips and moving the hoses away from the filter access cover. This was mostly needed when installing the new filter as it is a tight fit. To unclip the hose fitting couplers, just press down on the white portion on the coupling and pull apart. Then unclip the wire retainers that hold the plastic filter cover with your fingers and remove the cover.
Note the plastic cover just sets into the opening with several protrusions that fit in the bottom of the filter opening. It is not sealed. Once the new filter is installed just reverse the procedure and reconnect the hard plastic hoses by snapping together.

FRAM filter for C7, has carbon filter material
Does this replacement filter eliminate the oil smell in the cabin?

Funny, I commented on the cabin air filter and oil smell in another thread! However it wasn’t that the filter gets ride of the smell it’s the way the plastic cover for the filter fits!
It appeared most who complained about the oil smell did so after a dealer changed the oil! I do all my own oil changes and have never smelled oil in my C7 or prior C6!
With a dry sump it’s easy to have a little oil spill when filling the tank. I take the precaution of putting a large rag around the filler opening. I have a large mouth funnel and am very careful when filling. I have to fill slowly as there are baffles in the tank.
It would not take much for a mechanic (or a mechancis helper who often do oil changes) using a pump oil fill gun (or containers of oil) to cause some oil to spill and run down behind the dry sump tank! That is right where the cabin air filter cover loosely fits and would allow fumes to enter! They would no doubt wipe up the top but not easy, nor would they take the time, to try to get a spill from the back of the dry sump tank, which is up tight against the firewall.
When the oil gets hot and the tank gets hot it could be the source of oil smell. Just a thought.

Big Rick, Jerry is right. The first o/c at my dealer went off without a hitch. Not so the second. Now I have the oil smell issue. One of the main reasons I switched to the high end charcoal filter. Crazy thing is, I've been all over the engine compartment and I can't find any oil residue. No spotting on my driveway or in the garage. My gut feeling is that it was overfilled. Sadly, my grandson was out sick that day. He is normally the one that changes my oil and does so on the other Corvettes that come in for o/c service. He is a gearhead that lives/breaths high performance cars.
