Default Hatch Pull Down

Has anyone retrofitted the hatch/trunk pull down motor from a 16 to a 14 or 15?

I haven't seen it done yet. I read that it was expensive, very involved and required new software:

That was pretty much the last I saw about it.

No - my C7 is a 2016, so it came with the auto pull down hatch latch.

However, I did add it to my 2006 Z06. My 2005 coupe came with the pull down latch and I really missed it on my Z06, so I added it, as well as a power passenger seat and adjustable lumbar/bolster supports.

I haven't compared the C7 with and without, but on the C6 there were quite a bit differences. Not only did I need to change the latch itself, but the support that holds the latch onto the rear of the cargo compartment, the striker, the key lock (because the cable from the lock to the latch was entirely different), and a couple of hunks of wire harness with associated connectors and pigtails of wires. Also, I had to rewire a fuse block in the passenger footwell, and I ran a wire directly from the battery to the latch for power that wasn't there with the manual latch. Then I had to buy a trim piece to cover up the new latch because the piece across the back of the cargo compartment with the manual latch wouldn't fit over the auto pull down latch.

So....maybe the C7 is much more similar between the two different latches, but I imagine you'd still need to do some rewiring to get power to the latch.

If you're interested in what was involved in my C6 project, take a look at this old thread - scroll down to about post# 44 where I finally get all the parts and start to do the installation:

There was one forum member that purchased all the parts to attempt the retrofit. I have been in contact with him but no updates in the last few months. Last he reported to me was that he made his own controller for the latch motor, and had it mocked up but not installed. He was not happy with it mocked up even though it worked so he purchased the expensive GM controller. That is the last I heard from him.

From what I learned, this retro fit requires:

* The rear bumper to be removed to put in the new latch mount.
* New wiring from the rear release button.
* The GM controller speaks to the BCM via the LAN for hatch open indicator on the 16, but used a simple wire to the dash on the 14 & 15 so all that would have to be sorted.

Looks like this is a job for Navtool! LoL!

Thanks for the update. Knew you spent time getting the electrical prints and parts list. As I recall there was a fellow after your effort who said he could tackle the software changes needed but have not had any further comments.
Sounds like it may be possible with a hard wire approach.

What software do you think may need to be reprogrammed?

I can't think of anything that the hatch interfaces with such that a reprogramming might be required.

I've only had my C7 for a little more than a week now, but it seems to me that as far as interacting with other stuff on the car it's pretty much the same as the C6.

Both of the fellows who looked at the situation are far more knowledgeable than me and that was their conclusion.
Believe the C7 electronics are more linked to a bus and less discrete wires, just my observation. I had an issue trying to tap the sun visor light power and was told current draw is monitored and can shut off power, which happened to me.

In new cars everything is on CAN (the cars internal network(s)), so doing these retrofits is harder. The C6 still used the Class 2 bus and had a lot of "individual wires" to run functions.

What technology giveth, it taketh away.
