I am mounting an Escort 9500i on a Blend Mount under the mirror.
Rather than take the back of the mirror off and use a mirror tap I am wanting to run a fused hardwire to a power source.

Has anyone tapped into the accessory plug that pops up at the front of the console?

The hardwire is the Smartcord with built in mute button and power/ alert LED's so I'd like to go this route.

I bought an add a fuse to go to the rear fuse box for my '16 but after mirror tapping my dads '14 I'm having second thoughts. The mirror tap is superior.

Got my C7 in October 2013 well before Blendmount and mirror tape. Followed what the forum was recommending, used the fuse that powers the receptacle on the console. Used an Add-A-Circut with a 2 amp fuse. Worked great and easy to do. The wire is fused the whole way.
Now what some feel may not be logical. That fuse panel is next to the battery in the rear. Fuse 20 if I recall correctly! I just used a small size wire for power and ran it under the carpet trim. Nothing to remove it just pulls out with your fingers and the wire tucks under. Less than 5 minutes.
For the ground used a bolt under the dash. Has worked for 28 months.
You need to learn how to get at the battery and the fuse panel is to the left and along the bottom so no need to expose all of it.
If you want the mute button close you may want to tap the receptacle wires but suggest adding a fuse. Then you have to take the console apart, which is no big deal but IMO takes longer.
If I had it to do over would probably use the mirror tap but if I didn't want to use it, I'd route the positive wire to the rear. FWIW
