Is there a particular product you recommend such as 3M or those types to install? I figured I could do this myself. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I believe it would be a wise investment.
^ Same here. I had it installed when I had all of the other sections done. You could have just the lights done if you want, should take them about 15 minutes or so...
I had mine covered in XPEL last week as the dealer replaced them and they had 4 miles on them by the time I got to the installer. They look great and clean up easy
That's the way to do it. I've had paint film on the last 3 cars. Great application. Gives decent protection from rocks/stones and keeps the headlight surface from crazing/fading and looking milky.
There are videos of people doing parts or all of the car with clear bras. I think it's a lot harder than the videos make it out to be and I'd doubt that a first effort could be anywhere nearly as good a job as someone who has been trained and done it a number of times.
XPEL's headquarters are in San Antonio and shops from all over the country send employees to learn how to do the job right. I watched some of them when my C7 was getting XPEL applied. Even though these guys have done films before, I saw them peeling film off and starting over. One student came from Hawaii. Don

I installed the expel on my headlights. It wasn't very difficult. The second light went much faster than the first after I got the hair dryer out to make the material more pliable. The haze underneath went away in a few days.

Any wax, sealant or protective coating will not protect as well as Xpel film over the headlights
You can buy the kit yourself from ebay and its not a terribly difficult install. But you will need a steamer or heat gun to help stretch the material (especially in cool conditions)
Work indoors as dust under the film is always a concern.
You can use johnsons baby shampoo for a slip solution but for smaller pieces like that which require some stretch a lot of times I'll use the Xpel install gel.
The alternative is to contact a local Xpel installer. Could be $100-$150 for the pair depending on your market and level of experience for the installer
My guy is the most popular in the area and sponsor of the local cars n coffee, always has a lambo/Ferrari or two in every weeks, he's known to not be the cheapest but very detail oriented and a perfectionist. My headlights cost me $75 for XPEL ultimate, was pleasantly surprised by that. Just washed the car for the first time since I got them done yesterday and they are as clear as can be and look perfect. Drove through a swarm of bugs at ~120mph the other day and wiped them all off the film very easily with detail spray and a towel.
