Default Check Engine Light

My 2016 Z-51 with 797 miles check engine light started flashing after about 5 minutes into a trip to the grocery store. The light went off nearly 2 minutes , I parked and went inside for just a few minutes once returing home the light came back on and stayed on . The manual says this is probably an emissions problem. Has this happened to anyone else and if so what was the fix . Thanks in advance !

It's under warranty. Take it to a dealer, get the codes read and let them fix it.

flashing CEL is not usually an emissions problem, from my experience, flashing CEL means pull over and turn the car off.

In this day and age why people don't have an OBD II scanner stored in their car or garage is totally beyond me.

Because not everyone can - or wants - to work on their cars: particularly when still under warranty.

a little information goes a long way. If I'm driving and a CEL comes on and I read it to be Bank 1 H2OS sensor circuit low voltage (aka bad O2 sensor) I know it's not harming my engine at all and I can still drive it forever without doing any damage vs Low Oil Pressure at which point I know to pull over then tell me isn't it worth the 40 bucks I paid for the scanner. People have to learn to be self sufficient, at the very minimum they could be armed with info so if they take it to a mechanic they at least know somewhat what's going on.

If your On Star is still active press the blue button and have them give you the fault code and readout

Exactly, push the blue button and they run a scan as you are driving.

Most people are not going to be able to work on their own car anyways. Even if they know what code it is.

For me its simple. If my check engine light goes on, i take it to the dealership. IF my car breaks down on the way there, GM will send me a tow truck and rental car.

This happened to me with my 2016. I had 350 miles on it when the light came on. Long story short, take it to the dealer. No big deal. Whatever it was they fixed it in 20 minutes.. All this computer stuff. Never came on again, now with 6500 miles on it, trouble free.

No reason why anyone with a brand new vehicle should feel the need to carry a scanner tool in their vehicle...

Car is under warranty. If more harm is done by driving the car a few miles to the dealership, that's on GM's dime.

Flashing check eng light is usually indicating a missfire code.

If there is a steady CEL, then it's probably a non emergency, and it's ok to drive. BUT, if it's a flashing CEL, it is something that needs to be addressed, and not driven!

Hey, if I may ask... How does one decipher the codes from an OBD scanner?

OBDII codes are standardized, if the scan tool just gives a code and no description, a quick search of the code on Google will tell you what it is.
