Default Compartment Cover

Is there a special trick to getting the back compartment cover up and out of the car to get easy access to the battery? I let my battery run down and the best I could do at the moment was to pry the one corner up to get the charger cables attached.

On a coupe you just gently lift the carpet from the back right corner, then lift the styrofoam tow mount cover. Just don't pull too much on the carpet or it'll tear. That corner is thin, otherwise the carpet is pliable.

Once the corner is up you can gently pull the carpet out from under the wheel well cover in front of the battery and also pull it forward and out from under the rear inner cover. It isn't hard, just a little scary the first time. Good Luck!

I don't know if the fact that this is a 2016 makes a difference or not. The carpet is glued to thin fiberglass sheeting. I can get the right rear started but as I try to ease it up going towards the driver's side corner it just stops and anymore makes me afraid I'll break it. The storage box on the driver's side rear has something to do with it, I believe. The same applies for trying to work towards the front on the passenger's side-it just stops and seems in danger of breaking the fiberglass sheeting.

The battery is on the right (passenger) side of the car. The drivers side carpet by the cubby has four push pins holding it down. The cubby door, frame and carpet are all one assembly. If you want to lift that side, lift the carpet and get a trim tool under the cubby frame and lift up to pop the push pins.

There's no sheeting under the carpet, just some batting material for heat/sound but it's attached to the carpet. I have a 2016 and just pulled the carpet out of the back for the third time. Lol. I'll probably have to do it one more time to install some sound equipment.

Edit: if you're removing the whole thing, you need to remove the two wheel well covers first. Those have that cargo tie down which needs to be unscrewed and removed, then it's just held on with push pins.

I'll keep on, keepin' on. Eventually, I'll get it. Good info on those push pins.
