CV joint ..torque converter...how many other new vehicles have these issues ? I never even heard of this stuff until i bought a C7..
Bet CR's readership has increased just because of this thread...
The negativity re; CR ... just may be sending the wrong signal ..
My dealer had never seen a CV joint failure in either C6 models or any C7 cars to date. This required my C7 to be flatbedded to the dealer. A new axle was overnighted and car was ready the next day. Install took less than an hour. Axles are under $250.
As for the Torque Converter, I have a friend who used to work at the Toledo Tranny factory. Perhaps he will be able to find out if this is a GM built item or if it came from a supplier. Was it designed incorrectly or are there manufacturing defects that have now been corrected? A 3 day job + Torque Converter ($1,000 est) plus fluids is going to be an expensive warranty claim. What if something fails because of the complex repair????
Crossing my fingers cause I really like driving my Z51!
Also, my son has a 15' Vert, but his is an M7.

Reason: Errors
One side of my family sold small appliances and some of the recommendations from CR as a best buy or top rated were absolutely junk and had terrible reliability. We used to laugh at what they considered reliable, we fixed those items and knew they were crappy. CR's reliability seemed to be based on anything but long term.
If they say there is something terribly wrong with a product I tend to listen to that advise from CR. Reliability to me means it doesn't constantly break down.
When it comes to cars Consumer Reports is 100% reliable for me. Whenever Consumer Reports does NOT recommend the car I am considering, I do the opposite and BUY IT, and it's always been the right decision for me.
For $30.00 a year just for the online subscription, knock yourself out. And while you're at it, you can find out what the best toaster is, too!
Thanks for the advice ... and I am sure CR thanks you also ...
Perhaps folks knocking their publication ...will increase subscriptions and my annual renew cost will drop..
BTW do not know for sure ..but would guess their annual auto issue is their biggest seller ... and most referred to publication...after toasters of course ...
My car buying decisions are influenced much more by publications such as Road & Track, Motor Trend and Car and Driver than by Consumer Reports. Now when I am looking at toasters, Consumer Reports is a good "go to" resource.
