Default Unsure about a C7

I am a C 6 owner and love the car. My only complaint is my squeaking top that I am constantly working on. Really want o move up to a 2014 C7 but have read tons of horror stories about the Engine, M7, and electronic problems. There seems to be a lot of low mileage cars out there and I am wondering why?? Are they afraid of engine failure and GM replacement hassles? I love the car but really don't want to trade my reliable C6 for a troubled C7. Help me make a good decision. thanks

Coming from a C6 (and a C5 before that) I say get yourself a C7. People come to a forum to discuss issues, not to post praise. That's the nature of forums. There are many, many C7 owners here that have had absolutely no problems, but you don't read about them. Instead you read about the few that have problems.

I have had my 2014 C7 for two years now, and have not had a single problem. There have been a couple of service bulletins, but nothing that would keep me from driving the car (and I corrected them myself)

I would NOT buy a 2014. It is usually never a good idea to buy initial year production cars for ANY brand.

At minimum, you should look for a 2016 with the front curb cameras and D bottom wheel. I'm sure you can probably get a great deal (I saw one for 20k off MSRP the other day) now that 2017s are around the corner.

2014's have not had any more issues than the other years. There really were no "first year" issues. I think the old adage about 1st year models has outlived its usefulness.

I had a C6 for 5 years. Just brought home a C7 yesterday. The cars are night and day.
The C7 is a big upgrade in all aspects.

Had my 2014 Z51 Vert for 2 years, only had about 8000 miles when I traded, not any problems.

Opinion /=/ facts. There has only been one "issue" specific to the 2014 MY - the oil spillover issue which has been resolved and handled without any fuss. In fact, ALL of my vehicles to date have been initial year production cars, 1998 and newer, and I have had no problems out of the ordinary. This is a stupid claim that needs to stop being said.

OP, I come from a "Corvette Family" and everyone loves my C7. As Zymurgy said, people come to the forum to gripe about very rare and one off problems while there are several others of us with issue free cars. Trade up, the C7 is Awesome!

How did you like the mid-engine layout?

We've been blessed (ok, it's the same disease that many of us have) to have owned over 130 cars - many different makes/models. The C7 is my favorite of them all. Bought a '15 just over a year ago and I still look forward to every drive. It won my wife over on a 3k mile road trip last fall and we'll take it again this fall.

This afternoon I'm going to the bank. It's about 5 miles from my home. When I take the C7 it's a 50 mile trip. You'll love it!

I think its not so much "problems" as a lack of features. Its very noticeable across brands that the first year models are generally "test" cars. The manufacturer releases the first batch and then make minor upgrades/changes based on customer feedback through out the life cycle. Most of the major changes will be seen probably around the 2nd or 3rd year release of the model.

For example, when you get a 2014 Corvette, you missed out on the nicer d bottom steering wheel, A8 transmission, front curb cams, trunk lid sealer, red on the dash for 3LZ, etc... So it's not so much that you get a "problematic" car per se, but more so that you COULD have gotten a better car by simply waiting an additional year or so.

Every car gets better each year-why get a 16 when the 17s will be better and guess what the 18s will be better than the 17s.

Same here and I totally agree

As someone that was impressed with the C5 to C6 transition, I was floored at how different the C7 is from every generation of Corvette before it.

Totally different car from the C6. Very, very refined.

I'm on this forum every day and have obviously missed all the "horror stories". What horror stories? Are you sure that you haven't confused the C7 with the late model GT3s that were bursting into flames?

Sorry, I'm not trying to tear you apart here but again, everything you posted is an OPINION. I have no need for any of the features that you claim make a car "better:"

D Bottom Steering Wheel - Looks cool but my round one is also great. The MSRP price increase from a '14 to a '16+ doesn't justify me getting a cooler looking steering wheel.

A8 Transmission - I have a manual so I don't care

Curb Cam - No need, I know the length of my front end and have zero problems parking

Trunk Lid Sealer - Don't have problems with my trunk like some other posters

Red Dash for 3LT - I personally don't like red interiors

Yes, manufacturers are going to add features to cars as the years progress. It is a means for them to continue to gain buyers and have a justification behind their usual annual price increase. The same can be said for any product - cell phones, computers, tv's, etc. but there comes a point when you see something you like and it has everything you wanted so you go for it. I saw the C7, it had everything I wanted in a Vette plus more, so I bought it. Simple as that

Some of us do not like the D steering wheel (impedes high speed slalom time). There has been quite a few A8 problems. I am planning on trading my 2014 on 2017 and thinking of replacing the steering wheel with a round one. My 2014 convertible, M7 has been trouble free.
