Default Infotainment/USB Media Problem

I have a problem with the music I moved onto a USB stick for play in the Vette: songs or tracks from multi-disc sets do not play in correct order in the car - in iTunes or any other media player on my PC they are played in correct order, i.e. first Tracks 1-x on Disc 1, then Tracks 1-y from Disc 2, etc.

Instead, the Infotainment system first plays all the songs that are listed as track 1, then all those listed as track two, and plays each track in alphabetical order, regardless of which disc in the set they were on.

The problem definitely stems from the ordering of tracks by disc (i.e. track 1, disc 1, track 1, disc 2, etc.) For example, in the Vette the album will play in order of track numbers, all track 1's are played first (but in alphabetical order), then the track 2's, etc. I confirmed this by manually editing each track in a 3-disc album (which was having the problem in the Vette), changing in iTunes the track numbers to 1-33 sequentially and making them all disc 1, and VOILA, it then plays in order in the Vette.

I'm looking for a way to fix this, and prevent it from happening going forward – without editing or reorganizing each and every track through iTunes, or other software - this would take me a ridiculously long time as I have a lot of multi disc sets which are organized by iTunes this way!

The only suggestion I have gotten so far (from a very helpful member of the “other” forum, would be to split up my multi-disc albums into separate albums, i.e. Volume 1, 2, 3 etc. Definitely less editing than going track by track, but still not a complete or ideal solution.

I’ve searched here and on other MyLink forums, and have tried speaking with Infotainment Support several times (but they could not understand the issue and were supposed to call me back to day to “escalate” the issue, but I have not heard from them – and I am not holding my breath for a call back).

I apologize for the length of this post, but if anyone has tackled this successfully, or has any thoughts or advice, I’d appreciate hearing it.

Thanks in advance!

I'm pretty sure what you see is it.
The Infotainment system only reads the information on the USB stick the way it's put on there.
To get what you want, you need your music on an external device, iPhone, Android, MP3 Player etc connected to the Infotainment system

Yes, I know I could do it that way, but I really would prefer not to (storage space, battery, etc.)

Thanks though!

I wouldn't want to either.
A phone in your pocket connected with Blue Tooth is the best alternative.

Simple. Write a script that takes all of your multi disc albums and writes out an .m3u playlist. The file format is simple (google it). Then in your car, browse to playlists and select it. You can put the songs in the playlist in any order that you like.

So are you saying if I create a playlist in iTunes and export the associated .m3u file to my USB stick, it will play in correct order through playlists in the Infotainment system?

I will have to try that tonight!

Thanks!

I agree with defaria, this is what I ended up doing was creating a playlist for all of my albums and put it on the USB stick. I have a playlist for every album. The Corvette Entertainment center will look for these playlists. You can do this in a lot of media players including the Windows Media Player or iTunes pretty quickly once you get an idea of how to use it...

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-ca/w...#1TC=windows-7

iTunes - how to create a playlist

https://support.apple.com/kb/PH12340?locale=en_US

The songs will play in what ever order you put them in when you build the playlist and save it. Be sure to save it under the album name or something you will recognize when the entertainment center reads it.

Want to make sure I'm doing this correctly:

I have already copied the track organized by album subfolders onto a USB stick.

If I create a playlist in iTunes and then "export" the playlist (which I assume is actually only the .m3u file) to the folder on the USB containing that album, the Infotainment system will be able to play it in the correct order?

Well, I tried C7DriverOnt's suggestion and it seems to work, but something is still wonky as many of the times I select a track in playlist it jumps to and starts playing something else.

I need to play around more with this...there be something wrong in my iTunes library or with the folders I copied to the USB drive.

Thanks all for the suggestions!

I know it's not what you're asking, but
just get an iPOD Nano. They're cheap enough.
I keep mine in the area behind the Info screen.

There are free rename/MP3 tag programs out there. After you copy your music to the stick use the program to rename them with a sequential track # as the first part of the file name.
