Default Z51 vs BASIC

What's the best to use in doing a build for the track. Z51 components or basic with aftermarket suspension, brakes, etc. I Had a straight '01 Z06 in FL that i did little work to all stock components and it was one heck of a car on Homestead, PBIR and Sebring. Considering a new build. Thanks for your ideas

I think either option will be enough.

The main difference with going with the Z51 is that GM said you can track the Z51. So you can get warranty claims on broken parts.

If I go used for this purpose you recommend one year vs another or all basically the same with either basic or z51?

For the base car you can get 2014 or 2015
for Z51 i would go at least 2015.

Default Auto/ Paddle vs Manual

Mike, You think the auto paddle would work well and hold up? F1, Porsche, Ferrari et al seems to work well in competition environment? Think trans. man need to beef up modify? I get these after thoughts, ha

Is this a dedicated track car?

I retired my race car and bought a 2016 Z51 that I could drive to the track, drive on the track, and drive home.

You absolutely want a Z51 for the track as it has dry sump oil system, larger brakes and extra cooling. For an M7, I'd go for a used 2014-15, but if you get an A8, you want a 2016 to get the trines cooler.

If its a dedicated track car, I'd certainly consider buying an already built-up and caged C6 Z06... lots of bang for the buck.

I am sorry I figured you were getting the manual. Yes you want the manual. The A8 has problems, just look at the threads on this forum. Haven't seen a single problem with the manual.

Yes, I was going with the manual. wanted thoughts on paddle and I did see the comments about shifting hard and kinda lurching! Didn't sound good. Still appreciate others opinions. I drove my '01 Z06 hard on the track and 6 speed held up very well. Instead of c7 i may duck back in and opt for a c6 zo6. Prices are really getting hard to resist alone with that kick *** 427.

Thanks, Jim

Your 2014 manual or auto? Problem with dry sump apparently was in quantity maybe blow by oil into air intake and quantity of oil was in question? How may quarts you put in at oil change? Saw something about 9.8 qts sound right? Sure all wired out by now? Thanks for your input!
