Default Z51... She's a hot option, but she's not a model

I have been amused and entertained by all the debate on the Z51 as a model or option. At the 2016 Bash, I made it a point to ask Harlan. You can see his response in the Bash video at 26:35. (Thanks Rick Conti for posting).

https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...on-2016-a.html

For all intents and purposes, the Z51 is a performance package. But like he says, if it makes you sleep better at night, it can be whatever you want it to be.

Some were disappointed there wasn't a model in this post, so here's one of my favorites.

Does it really matter? Option or model...? I think not.

It's been solved ONCE AND FOR ALL....YES!!!!

This is going to light peoples fires...some argue HARD that it's a model, not an option. This is clearly an option to Stingray, just as Z07 is an option to Z06 and GrandSport. Z51....officially NOT A MODEL!

I had a C6 with Z51 package but never considered it a model.....but if some like to see it that way no worries to me. I think its a "package" until you put a badge on your car then it becomes a "model."

As posted in the past, it's a model from the ordering system, classification, VIN sequence, insurance rates etc. Chevy marketing just doesn't market it as a separate model.

Personally, I can sleep well at night either way. However, some people on both sides of this debate put way to much energy into this. We would be better off debating manual vs auto, coupe vs convertible, color choice, wheel choice, 1LT vs 2LT vs 3LT, mag ride or no mag ride etc. Live and Let Live.

This has been beaten over and over. It now seems to be starting with owners that have the Z07 option that no longer refer to their car as what it is, a Z06. As far as I'm concerned, I own a Corvette Z06. If I owned a Z51, which I have in the past, I owned a Corvette. Now if it was a C7, I would call it a Corvette Stingray.

I helped some friends spec their first Corvette this Winter. It is nothing like what I ordered. It fits their needs, nothing wrong with that.

Default Hot Option

I'll take a hot option over a model any day. Models tend to be high maintenance know what I mean? Expensive and overrated.

How about I volunteer to combine my "package" and your "model" and see what happens...

I have seen this on every Corvette forum. When I had a c5, c6, and now c7. Who cares if it is or is not a model, a package or whatever. I have been to dozens of car shows and whatever someone wants to do to their car is their business. If they want to put Z06 badges on a c6 vert, or whatever, who cares. Us corvette guys know the difference and although I would not do it, I just laugh to myself and walk on by. Why some vette owners get their panties in a waud, who knows! By the way, had a Z06 and loved it, have a C7 with a Z51 "model" "package" whatever and love it too, but enough with the "what it is".... It's whatever the owner wants it to be!!!
