Well. I paid cash for mine when I bought it. The next door neighbor bought a new 2016 1LT last week and told me he is paying $836 a month. I said nothing and nodded my head and continued the conversation about the Corvette.
Later in the house I shook my head and said Holy Mackerel and ... other things.
OP Its your money and do what you want with it. The highest i had was 635 for 96 months in 2008 when i bought my first C6 1LT. I have gotten smarter with money since then. I now own my stingray clear and even the payment I had was 450. But if your happy with your mortgage I mean car payment then it is what it is.
I got a 1.49% loan for 3 years on the entire price of the car. With an interest rate anything like that it's just plain stupid to use your own money even if you have it availablle.
I agree with Walt. I was planning to write a check for my Z06 however I found my credit union was offering a ridiculously low rate since they consider me "no risk". So my Z06 savings money joined another of my investments and is earning a far better rate than my interest charge.
Taking out a loan at a great rate can be a good decision. Borrowing money you really can't afford to borrow for a toy instead of a necessity would be a bad decision.
Some of you probably saw the recent Federal Reserve study that reported 47% of those surveyed would have to either borrow money or sell something to come up with $400 for an emergency. Something to think about next time we feel like bitching about the bug splat on our windshield or other inconsequential issues.
We are debt-free now thanks to following the philosophy of both or our parents and Dave Ramsey,
(it was a looong, hard journey...)
Yeah, tell that to my grandfather that lived by that rule and then died before he ever got to enjoy any of it.
Don't take this the wrong way but Dave Ramsey is an idiot. I don't care about status symbols. I care about enjoying the little slice of time I get to have on this planet.
And for the record, I have an 820 credit score and zero credit card debt so I'm not suggesting people should go into massive debt. I am suggesting there's more to life than staying 100% debt free at the cost of living a happy and fulfilling life.
Everyone's finances are different if you can afford that payment then that's great . I looked for the best interest rate I could find and found the credit unions are the best at the time . With my trade 2009 and some money down bought my 2015 lt2 393.00 month which I can live with . So everyone's finances are different .
Its all relative to income, available cash and credit for each individual.
I think that would be stating the obvious
While I can't disagree with your statement, I honestly don't think that anyone who buys a car for $135K, not to mention the additional cost of ownership (fuel, Insurance, etc) should ever do so unless they had AT LEAST 50% down. $750 a month is one thing - 96 months is quite another.
I, for one, have "built" a C& Z06 at the online, Chevrolet website - and the cost for the car of my choice seems to hover between $105-110K USD - I wouldn't even think about buying such a vehicle with any less than $75K down for a term of no more than 36-42 months, and an APR, at or below, 2.5% !!
In addition, if I decide to spend in excess of $100K on another car....I'm going to take a good, long look at the Viper and Mercedes S-series offerings as well !!

As always, just my 2 cents !!

To each their own, I have owned many cars in excess of $100,000 including a Viper which is in my opinion a very inferior car to the new Z06. I purchased a 2008 Viper, brand new off the show room floor for $82,000 all in and now their $140,000 and up to $160,000 for the ACR, Too much! As far as mercedes goes, they have the worst cost of ownership of any car out there, and if you keep it past the warranty you will pay and pay and pay untill you get tired of paying and then when you sell it you will lose more money on depreciation then you have ever lost on any car you have ever owned..

I have to say, you sure hit the nail on the head in regard to the Mercedes.

Why is $836 a month so much worse than shelling out 65k at once?
Really? You can't be serious. Most of us opened the petty cash drawer and paid for it. How else are you going to get a good deal?
I find now, that cash is not king anymore. The dealers make more if they lend you the difference. So when you say what's the price, CASH, they will probably want to charge more.

When I first started thinking about the new C7 Z06, I thought, gee, that's a lot of money but money is relative to what else you can buy for that same money at that particular time frame. Though out my life I always felt that the Corvette was always , just out of reach every time I thought that I might purchase one, and always ended up buying a Camaro or Firebird so this time I did a little research on what it would have cost me back in 1963 to buy a fully loaded Corvette Z06 and what a person in my line of work would have been paid at that time, and guess what, they were relatively the same price back then as they are now considering what people make now. That's quite amazing factoring in that the C7's have many options that would only appeared in your favourite science fiction comic book and 650 HP was a pipe dream for a street car. I don't have a mortgage, my acreage is worth 7 figures, my other cars are paid off, no credit card debt, kids gone, who cares as long as your having fun, it's just money.
