I guess that I will have to test drive a coup. My last three Corvettes have all been verts. Are the coupes that much quieter on the highway? My vert is actually pretty quiet but I still have to turn up the music loader than I would like.
I experienced more road noise in the coupe. With the cargo space empty, the road noise resonates more in the open space behind the seats. There are after market insulation kits for this that work well...
I think it also depends on where you park your car.
One of my must-have features when I was shopping for my car was that it had to be a convertible (like my previous XLR, which had a retractable hard top). I didn't even realize that the coupe had a removable targa top until I started looking seriously at the C7. I hardly see any coupes driving around with the top off.
I chose the coupe, and have no regrets:
When the top is off, it feels pretty close to a convertible (many people even think it is one).
It has the room I need for my guitars and amp (convertible does not).
I park in a garage at home and at work, so I usually leave the top off. On the rare occasions when I park on the street, I put it back on. If I had to park on the street every day, it would be a hassle, so I wouldn't have it off nearly as often.
The dear Wifey, and I are vert people. No way we could go back to a coupe. That's just us though. But I agree, the trunk in the Vert is an adventure to load. As stated above we have never left anything behind that would be needed. We pack enough for a four day trip, and wash along the way. Has worked for us on quite a few 3 week trips. With that said I suggest (if possible) test drive both with the top off/down. That would hopefully help you decide which you like best. You'll learn how to pack either very easily. Good luck on your decision.
I must say that where there is a will, there is a way. I'm sure vert owners can always pack appropriately. I thought it was hard to pack for the Coupe when we got it. But its a piece of cake now.
I had a C6 Coupe, then went with a C6 Vert (Callaway), and recently purchased a C7 Coupe. I think the C7's look a lot better than the verts do (top up or down), and it seems like where we live, it's either pretty hot or cold, so didn't have the top down that often (live in Iowa). I also wanted some extra storage space for the longer trips we take so the wife doesn't need to find a laundry mat at some point in our vacation. I miss the Callaway horsepower, but certainly don't miss the convertible. I think the C7 is a great car no matter what you choose.
