The 2016 nav has features missing from 2014; for example, the ability to toggle autozoom on/off. This seems like a simple software/firmware update, but my dealer says no update is available. Is this true? Has anybody updated their 2014/2015 nav to include 2016 features?
Not available - they aren't updating the SW/FW for the 14/15 unless there are bugs.
GM does not yet have the view that the electronics in the car should be updated to add capability like we have in phones or tablets. Tesla does and Ford does, so I expect eventually they will get with the times but not yet.

I was afraid of that. Thanks for confirming. 2016 nav units are available aftermarket for around $1,000. I hate to spend the money to update something I already paid for that Chevy should support, but I will do so if there's no other way.
I plan to upgrade to a 2017 setup in my 2014 when available. Faster hardware and interface, SMS messaging, and Apple Carplay. Since Apple Carplay requires the Audio Module to be replaced you do lose HD radio in the 2014 though ... but you will have the latest maps and features.
I just bought a 2016 Focus ST with the Sony Nav and Sync 3 ... wow ... its does blow the C7 electronics away .... but surprisingly no Apple Carplay. Supposedly Ford will be able to add Carplay later this years for $$ - it will required a trip to the dealer to do it and some sort of hardware replacement.
The software was written for the later modules which have upgraded hardware. The older modules with slower hardware and less memory can not support the newer software.

Just another reason to trade a 2014 on a 2017. There are other refinements that we have not even been advised of.
Are your kidding? I love my 2014. The only part I truly dislike is the nav. So I'll just replace that one little unit. Not the whole car, for chrissake.
