I've owned many cars in my life time, from pickup trucks, SUV's and 'sport sedans'. I've only owned my C7 for about 10 days, and it amazes me how many people tailgate me.. I don't know if it's to get a closer look (not too many C7's in my neck of the woods) or they want to 'see it go, but it drives me insane.. I typically go slower than I normally would to irritate the tailgater and make them go around.. Do you guys ever get this??
And remember the opposite is true, you are so low to the ground, you are going to appear to be tailgating even from a far distance back...

I think some part of it has to do with bragging rights. If you slow down for them to pass you they can say (at least in their small minds) ..."Yup, I passed a Corvette today, so I'm the man!"💩
Well, I'm glad this thread was started. I was pretty sure it want my imagination that folks liked to tailgate Corvettes. In many instances I'll pass an intersection where someone will pull out and go like hell to catch up, then just hang on my rear. It irritates me to but I don't provoke. I hold my speed, usually the speed limit +5-10. If someone is excessively close I'll give them the 4-way flashers. That often works. But other times....
I do think people swoop in for a closer look at a fantastic looking car. I am resigned that it goes with the territory.
If you are operating 10+mph over the limit, you probably do not have a tailgater.
Why is that? In NY you will be tailgated no matter how much you break the law and exceed the speed limit. If they could drive through your car they would not hesitate. A lot of hate on the roads these days.

Also keep in mind that the rear of the car is very close to you compared to others. A lot of the time it makes it feel like the car behind is closer then they are.
Yep, I live in tailgate heaven. It boggles my mind .... do they really think they can stop if I have to jam on the anchors? No way - it's a rear end in the making. It happens no matter what vehicle I'm driving and at or over the speed limit. I'm going to get myself in trouble here, I know, but 8 times out of 10 it's a female driver on my a$$ and yes, I've conducted extensive research to come up with the 8 out of 10
When tailgated I slow down a couple mph, just enough to widen the gap between me and car in front of me and to slow the tailgaters down behind me. Then hit the throttle quickly to speed up, which widens the gap between me and the tailgaiter.
If they tailgate again I repeat.

I'm with you on this one. And to add to that, I sometimes see them looking down at what I assume to be their cell phones while they are on my azz so even if I gently hit the brakes, there's a higher risk of being hit in the azz due to the small gap and them not paying attention to the road. If you're going to text and drive, why stop there...might as well as down a few beers and some shots of whiskey while you're at it.
Are we talking about 2 lanes or an interstate? If interstate and you're in the right lane, just lift until they pass. If you're in the left lane, move over. Give them a clear path to pass and become the LEO clearing target. I run around 9 or 10 over and try to stay to the right to let the "In a rush" people to just rush to their heart's content. I have my V1 running and if they are using me as their radar detector, they will end up doing 55 until they get off my donkey.

When on the Interstate I am on cruise control at 5 to 8 over (lots of speed traps and rolling bears around here.) My radar detector is always on, lots of bleeps!
When I see a hot shot barreling up they are often trying to see if I can be their "rabbit." I tap the brakes before they get too close to disengage cruise control and travel at the speed limit. That usually lets them pass and tailgate someone else!

You've clearly never driven in California, have you? Just came back from a visit to the Golden State (Lived there for 50 years). I'd almost forgotten how bad the drivers are.
Despite stiff penalties for moving violations, texting, etc, etc, drivers here are the worst. We saw a TEN car crash that occurred at slow speed due to tail gating. One of the high points on our visit to I-405...
Yeah! And what ever happened to the one car length distance for every 10 miles per hour? And when I come up to a stop light I leave at least one car length distance between me and the car in front of me for an escape route to either left or right. I watch that rear view mirror like a hawk to see if someone is not going to stop. Learned those escape routes on my motorcycle and it has paid off a couple of times. I pulled out and the car that forgot to stop crashed into the car that was in front of me.
I've noticed this phenomenon as well...only with the C7. I drove my C6 daily for 5 years and only had the occasional Mustang or Charger rev their exhaust as I passed by, but the Stringray is like a douche magnet especially when it comes to tailgating. It has nothing to do with riding lower to the ground or having the back end of the car closer to your seats, something about the car makes the tards drive up to it closer.
Had some crazy 30somethin' behind me on the way home from work yesterday.
I was doing about 80+ in the left lane, about 5-6 car-lengths behind the car in front, a couple cars in the lane to my right so I couldn't pull over. she was so close I couldn't see her front license plate.
I looked into my rearview to see if she got any closer and she was frantically waving her right arm directing me to MOVE TF OVER... I couldn't go anywhere when she accelerated to her right to pass the car to my right, hit at least 20 over what I was doing to get ahead of everyone.
The reason you are being tailgated is traffic/road conditions warrant a faster speed. Increase your speed a few miles per hour and amazingly the car following you will drop back to a reasonable distance. Works every time!
No.
The reason the person behind you if tailgating is that they don't maintain a reasonable distance between the two of you. It doesn't really matter what the traffic conditions are, it boils down to this simple fact.
Are you sitting in the left lane when driving on the freeway?
Personally, I never sit in the left lane. I am either passing someone, or moving over to let others pass me or get in the proper lane. The rules are, drive right, pass left...
Just wait until you get" bumped" in very slow traffic when YOU ARE NOT MOVING! We pulled over on I-77 traffic and I chewed a Cadillac driver out. I later found out my back-up camera was not right. The camera was knocked out of place and with a small screw driver I re-set the camera. Next time when you get out of your car if you are tapped, be quite, take your phone and take a lot of pictures including the others drivers license and insurance. The I-phone is your friend. Make it look like a crime scene and you are out for compensation.
