Yikes, that was 16 years ago. I don't remember the name of the company, but his truck looked like a salvaged junk yard find and the glass "dude" as I will call him did not appear to own any kind of brush, whether it be for teeth or hair. Lowest bidder wins the job!
Okay here's an update. Had appointment at the dealer this morning and all went well. The Vette Tech and Service Manager inspected the windshield and both agreed it was a stress crack and will be covered under warranty. They said they will order the windshield today and let me know when it's in. Around an hour later my Service Advisor called me and said ETA for the windshield is 5-8 days. Will wait and see.
I called the service manager yesterday to see what was taking so long to get my window. 7 weeks so far. He contacted GM and said is scheduled for shipment within 2 weeks. They are making them as fast as they can! There will be delays with head up displays of a couple of weeks. Mine is not a HUD. So all is good with me. The crack is not in the field of view and has spread to the edge top and bottom. I guess I'll post the picture again and you can see on the crack heading downward on this picture it is still not continued to the edge, but has now, to the direction it was heading. And I have 9.6 K on this car and have had one stone chip repair that was done a week after I bought it, and there are little ticks here and there that don't need repairing. You would think these new windshields they are manufacturing now days are made of glass!

About a month ago, I was out in the driveway and heard a cracking, tinkling of glass sound. At first I thought it was birds, LOL
I happened to look over at my 2013 Subaru Outback and noticed the rear glass was slowing fracturing! I actually took video of it happening. Within about two minutes the entire rear glass was fractured. I never heard of such a thing. Apparently spontaneous breakage can and does occur... Very weird.
Called Safeco, my insurance. They put me through to Safelite. Safelite ordered the glass and installed it quite professionally, zero deductible.
Had it happen to my tundra truck sitting in the shop, no chip or anything and the truck was at least 4 yrs old when it happened. Ins. ate it. Good luck
Update; got a call from the dealer Saturday morning and they said my windshield is in. Just need to schedule the install now.

Let me know how that goes. My dealer informed it is in the works and it should be in anytime. I'm sure you know this, but make sure whoever they have install it that they cover the areas of the car that could be scratched and that the ridge line from the top, seal and window are flush after the installation. Let them know there are no scratches on it now and don't expect to see any after the job is complete. A lot of these glass repair outfits don't give a you know what about your car.
Will do and I'll make sure the service manager goes over my car with a fine tooth comb with me there. You're right - need to make sure all surfaces are covered and or taped off.
Exact same thing happen to mine at 2000 miles. It was from top to bottom on the driver's side. Glass was only cracked on the inside. Dealer replaced under warranty.
Here's my 2015, similar situation, no known cause. Dealer replaced it under warranty at a year and 11k.. GM sent a rep from the glass company to evaluate glass and supervise the install. Rep told me that they'd had similar problems with 1/15 builds, of which mine was one.
My biggest concern was that they would replace it with a GM HUD windshield, which they did.
My dealer called me today and said the window is in. I'll take it in Thursday morning. About time. I has been 2 months. But with that said, they are getting her done. I'll report back with the results.
Dropped the car off to the dealer this morning to have the new windshield installed. They called me this afternoon and said that when the glass company removed it from the crate to install it was broken. Not dealers fault. GM doesn't crate them well enough is my guess. Wait for another one to be delivered.

Glass rep was there when the windshield was replaced. There was welding slag on the alum frame that caused the problem.
